After listening to 45 minutes of this panel, I'm wondering if you could conceptualize the Commonweal as "cozy" despite all the fighting and death and high stakes. Certainly books 2 and 3. #worldcon #replay

@gwollman.bsky.socialSep 10, 2026, 3:14 AM

They spend a good 20 minutes just trying to define what "cozy" means, to readers specifically, and how that differs from other descriptions like "comfort". #worldcon #replay

Yeah, I did end up bailing on that panel, it just wasn't going anywhere interesting. (I'm not sure, I might have watched it live from my hotel room that morning.) Anyway, next #worldcon #replay is "How are Teachers Using Science Fiction in the Classroom?" with 5 panelists I don't know.

Finished supper, got a bit distracted by a @milesintransit.com video, but now it's time for more #worldcon #replay action. I'm going to start with the "Queer Fantasy (Virtual)" panel, but I might bail pretty early depending on whether it turns out to be at all interesting.

OK, moooooving on, #lacon did a series of events for the finalists in each of this year's prose awards. The one for the Astounding Award for Best New Writer was moderated by @matociquala.bsky.social. Of course now we know who won, but it's still interesting to see the preview. #worldcon #replay

O hai. Starting my #worldcon #replay tonight a little bit late (had some financial stuff to do) so probably only a couple of sessions today, starting with "Where No Man Has Gone Before: Sci-fi and Gender Exploration". I recognize a couple of the panelists' names from panels I attended in-person.

Final #worldcon #replay of the night will be "The Laws of Robotics and Other Ways AI Might Learn from SF", which either will be interesting or will cause me to bounce hard within the first 15 minutes. I don't recognize any of the names of the panelists.

Back from supper (and watching today's early ball game on fast-forward) and now moving on to "Muad'dib Says Fight: Religious Wars in Speculative Fiction". This panel has @princejvstin.com on it but I don't recognize any of the other names. #worldcon #replay

(I *really* don't care much or remakes of things that I already know, even if the thing that I know isn't itself original.) #worldcon #replay

@gwollman.bsky.socialSep 7, 2026, 11:37 PM

Yeah, no question, including the bluffing round(s). Except that Richard Sher (RIP) would have hired an engineer to ensure that everyone had a mic and the levels were not all over the place. Definitely better to be in the audience. #worldcon #replay

Seems like this game is maybe a take-off on "Says You!". #worldcon #replay

@gwollman.bsky.socialSep 7, 2026, 11:15 PM

Really doesn't help for the moderator to repeat audience questions when the moderator's mic isn't working. Bailing on the "found family" Q&A. #worldcon #replay

Next up is a "long-running" game show that I've never heard of. Hopefully the audio is better.

Back from the ride. One thing I would have liked to see asked of the professional conlangers is what their brief actually looks like when they start a project for a studio/producer/director. Next #worldcon #replay is "Fantasy Found Families", which @charliejane.bsky.social was on. First :08 missing.

@gwollman.bsky.socialSep 7, 2026, 8:17 PM

Moving on, now watching another of the #conlang sessions, pleased to get a few examples from Finnish (not a conlang but also not much like IE languages the attendees speak, as an example of diversity of human languages). Unfortunately marred by signal dropouts at the encoding end. #worldcon #replay

In an age of ebooks, social media and digital connections, why do readers still stand in line to have an author sign a physical book? A signature turns a book into a memory #books #author #writing #worldcon #LA #georgerrmartin www.jeremycliftbooks.com/post/the-mag...

Unlike all the previous academic #worldcon presentations I've tried to watch, in this one the presenter actually spoke into the microphone so you can understand what she is saying. Unfortunately it was *very* academic and Theoretical-with-a-capital-T so I did not find it very interesting.
