Welcome to VundaHalloweenathon Day 9: "Aural Horror"

Today we listen closely to our favorite sound-based horror movies. Anything where sound or audio is a central part of the film in some way is perfect for today! #Vundacast #VundaHalloweenathon #31DayHorrorChallenge #31DaysofHorror #MutantFam 🎥👻🎬

I absolutely ADORE the end credits music for CLOVERFIELD which is very obviously a direct homage to the classic Universal Monster era of cinema and I feel like I should be standing in line for the King Kong ride listening to it... #Vundacast #VundaHalloweenathon #WatchParty 🎥👻🎬

This is a good time to bring up another popular theory: there is more than one "Clovy" in CLOVERFIELD. I mean compare the size of that gigantic foot they see across the alley--or those overhead shots of the full monster--to what Hud sees here... #Vundacast #VundaHalloweenathon #WatchParty 🎥👻🎬

The way this sequence in the buildings is filmed is incredible! It couldn't just be camera tricks in the hallway bc you can clearly see gravity pulling them the direction it should be pulling them. It had to be build in a studio leaning at an angle. #Vundacast #VundaHalloweenathon #WatchParty 🎥👻🎬

I think the biggest reaction by far from the midnight showing crowd was Marlena's death. Like what the FUCK??? What is in the bite of this creature?!?! #Vundacast #VundaHalloweenathon #WatchParty 🎥👻🎬

Everyone always talks about how the little monsters in CLOVERFIELD are scarier than the big monsters but no one ever talks about how the fucking scariest thing about them is that unhinged fucking duck noise they make. Legendary sound design, fuck. #Vundacast #VundaHalloweenathon #WatchParty 🎥👻🎬

GOD the slow reveal of the monster(s) in this movie is so insanely well done. Even now I absolutely marvel at it but as someone who went to the midnight showing, I can't overstate how EXHILARATING that aspect of the movie was... #Vundacast #VundaHalloweenathon #WatchParty 🎥👻🎬

Okay did you remember the thing? Good. I wrote about this last year watching CLOVERFIELD. One of the last things Jason says to Rob... and then after Jason is killed, you can almost see those words echo in Rob's mind and he knows what he has to do... #Vundacast #VundaHalloweenathon #WatchParty 🎥👻🎬

So one of the discourses around this movie, I can remember, was those pieces of the explosion appearing to possibly be rocket-propelled and wtf was up with that. It was a whole thing. As were many things in this movie. #Vundacast #VundaHalloweenathon #WatchParty 🎥👻🎬

Okay remember this detail for later because it leads to maybe my favorite thing in this movie: the last thing Jason says to Rob before, y'know, is, "you've gotta learn to say 'forget the world' and hold onto the people that you care about the most." #Vundacast #VundaHalloweenathon #WatchParty 🎥👻🎬

This movie really doesn't get enough credit for how good all the actors in it are. Like yeah fuck TJ Miller but I'm not gonna pretend he's not the perfect comic relief in this movie and everyone else is so effortlessly naturalistic! #Vundacast #VundaHalloweenathon #WatchParty 🎥👻🎬

So you probably won't have time to watch this before it comes up in the film because it's less than a minute in, but I did this little breakdown of that opening digital watermark sequence and some pretty interesting things are going on there... #Vundacast #VundaHalloweenathon #WatchParty 🎥👻🎬
