we were raised by loving parents who never hit

I didn’t know what it was, a curious creature,
Black with red eyes, the size of my little finger.
No idea what to call her, assumed it was a her.

She was the teacher that saw the struggling teens
She looked beyond bad attitudes and torn jeans
She saw hunger in their eyes
Desperation in their lies
She nurtured them to the growth in their means

Mid April or maybe sooner, a few small plants for relishes and, or salsa. The beans were something new we tried, nothing fancy.

We watched them grow all summer long. #Nurture and maintain. Protect for frost and heavy rain.

In 5 minutes the beans were gone
