Doggos with black fur are just as wonderful and in need of loving homes as their lighter-furred counterparts, but are less likely to be adopted.
@rockafowlers.bsky.socialTo celebrate #NationalBlackDogDay I thought I would tell you what made Hoagie so special. When we were down, he would come close to us on the couch, nudge us with his nose, and make us pay attention to him. It made us realize everything was right in the world Because of him.

@capper42.bsky.socialHappy #NationalBlackDogDay! As many of you may know, black dogs and cats are less likely to be adopted and more likely to be euthanized.
Share your beautiful black furbabies!
Here is the one and only Bandit!
@catherinebeavis.bsky.socialToday is #nationalblackdogday Black dogs are less likely to be adopted because people think they're unlucky or unsafe, & so left unwanted in rescue centres. We rescued & shared 12 wonderful years with our beautiful Buddy Boy. I miss him, & have such special memories 🥹🐾💛 #dogs

For years we’ve been told black dogs are overlooked because they’re black
But does the research actually support that?
The evidence is more complicated than the story we’ve been telling.

@stephengrae.bsky.social#NationalBlackDogDay In Cumbrian lore, Barguest is a frightening spirit foretelling the death of those who see it, and generally appearing in the form of a large black dog
