Her father seemed to grow a bit taller and stronger as they wandered into this new part of the afterlife. The deep space around them almost shimmered with purple haze. He inhaled and folded his arms across his chest. The same feeling she had when thinking about what Marak wanted to do to her, was written plainly on her father’s face. The same look she saw on other victims of assault that she came across in the clinic or Innani’s store.

“It was after I was exiled. I found myself slowly healing and barely able to walk on the edge of the city. No magic. Just tossed onto a supply van and ditched in an alleyway as they went to get the last of our Church’s equipment from the hospital. I had no one, except a friend. A dusk elf named Jeth. He was my accomplice in almost every way, even told me he would be waiting for me if they let me live.”

“So you made friends with an outsider. Hypocrite.”

B finished her cocktail and lunged the distance between her and K, who deftly kept her own drink from spilling. She sipped at it casually even as B pressed close, calmly holding B’s gaze. Electricity seemed to pass between them as they breathed the flavors on each other’s breath.

B snatched K’s drink and finished it for her. She tossed it over her shoulder as she closed the final distance between them to claim her lips, deep and possessive. She tasted the alcohol on K’s tongue, smelled her subtle perfume, felt her smooth thigh under the slit in her dress.
