OLGA DE AMARAL - a revolutionary fiber/sculptural artist, from Colombia. She studied at Cranbrook (where my dad studied too!) & then returned to Colombia & pushed the boundaries btw weaving, sculpture, painting. This #LatinxHeritageMonth, we honor the Latinx leaders fighting to ensure their communities can live free from fear of gun violence. Leaders like Lisa are critical in the fight to #EndGunViolence. Together, we’ll create a future that’s safe for ALL communities. 🧡

Zero lies detected, Paul Ortiz! When the history of Latinx people is placed at the center of our national narrative, US history becomes profoundly a working-class affair. #LatinxHeritageMonth buff.ly/hWyDlKf

TANIA BRUGUERA is a Cuban performance artist who interrogates power dynamics, social & political oppression, often in startling, visceral, literally body-based ways. Hard to convey the power of her work in fotos. But I had to include in #LatinxHeritageMonth #LatinxContemporaryArtist as she’s a force

A portrait of the artist TANIA BRUGUERA, facing the camera, tongue stuck out kinda sideways, holding scissors to it seemingly in the second before cutting it. A still from Tania Bruguera, Untitled (Havana, 2000). Recreated at MoMA in 2018. Tania Bruguera, Destierro (Displacement), 1998 (-2003). A still from Tania Bruguera Tatlin’s Whisper #5 (2008) at the Tate.
