I used to work in a school library and we hosted a lot of author visits. I got it down to a science on the librarIan end, but I get nervous thinking about when it will be my turn!

We did a writing institute and had all kinds of cool writers come in to talk to the kids. That was cool, but we could never nail down an author and we have plenty of them around here to participate. #kidlitchat

I had an easel & big newsprint pad & Handout with my a cat drawn with simple shapes. The school was told to have blank paper for the kids and something to make marks with. And then I demo'd drawing and we drew together. Also had the kids call out what animals to learn to draw next. #kidlitchat

With middle schools, which change classes, I offer to take the whole day for the teacher, and do my presentation with all (seven) of their classes. An assembly is way more disruptive, and what I do gives them a break and keeps their classes "even" in their lesson plans. #kidlitchat
