Perched just above the water on the base of bent cattail reeds, a green heron faces the camera and looks slightly to the right. While the gorgeous iridescent green feathers on its wings, which are the typical highlight of this bird's beauty, are not visible in this photo, its chest and underside are also beautiful. Streaks of white run through reddish-brown feathers from its throat to its sides and all the way down to its legs. The top of its head is dark blue and its eyes are bright yellow with large black pupils.

Taken today, my new favorite #Bird #GreenHeron

The #BirdOfTheDay theme is #Contrast; light birds against dark backgrounds or vice versa. This #GreenHeron pops against the algae backdrop. Turns out a dark green and light green can also provide contrast!
