Percy Farwell - Mayor of Gander with a powerfully moving speech that was not just about 9/11 - it was a sermon about humanity.

One line about what happened in Gander that day & how in humanity the community came together - “doing what we were put on this earth to do.” 🙏

A beautiful display of compassion and kindness. #Gander

Thank you #Gander Newfoundland for the part you played on 9/11 by helping #Theplanepeople. I got very emotional listening on a piece about your kindness that day. I am heartbroken about what is happening now

On Sept. 11th twenty-five years ago today, the small town of #Gander 🇨🇦 saw their population nearly double. In the face of this crisis, the townspeople came together & donated food, clothes, & sheltered people in their own homes w/o hesitation.

Thank you, Canada 🇨🇦 for Operation Yellow Ribbon. This is what great neighbors do for each other, and this Minnesotan remembers.

Even at the 9/11 memorial in Gander, the 🥭 ambassador can’t help but be a smug asshat.🤦🏼‍♀️
For me it’s the end, where he basically says that 🇨🇦 is the one blowing things out of proportion & 🇺🇸 is the level headed one.
Blood pressure warning.⛔️

While we commemorate the anniversary of the tragedy of #September11th, the story of what happened in #Gander offered a ray of light in an otherwise dark time. 🇺🇸🇨🇦

Settled in for a day of crying along with CBC News. #9/11 #Gander #TwinTowers

I remember exactly where I was, I remember the weather, I remember the horror. I remember hearing every television on the same channel, in every town...

I also remember how Canadians opened their arms, their airspace, their homes and shops to so many Americans.

I remember.

As I take a moment to reflect on 25 years ago I’m overwhelmed with sadness and that feeling of uncertainty and uneasiness. I’m also reminded of the unity and neighbour comforting neighbour. I am incredibly proud of all the Canadians who stepped up to help. The world changed that day.
