More of the rarely used St Mary’s, Old Dilton - replaced by a new church in the 1840s and so escaped Victorian “improvement”. Though the font is 19th C.
Arms are George III - small but rather nice.
Lovely triple decker Georgian Pulpit too.

#FontsOnFriday Plain octagonal font, probably C14th according to Pevsner, from St Michael and All Angels, Croft Castle, Herefordshire.

Font outside the church porch
Apparently used as a “tomb to Mary MacGregeor 1888, Elie Parish Churchyard.” No idea what that means!
Don’t think it’s anywhere near a tomb today! #FontsonFriday

I was at Exeter Cathedral for a meeting yesterday. On my way out I snapped this photo of the font, which dates to 1687 and is made of Sicilian marble.

Church of St John the Baptist,
Hatherleigh, Devon

A plain Norman font, with a “graceful (18th Century?) ogee-cupola cover” - Pevsner guidebook. @yalepress.bsky.social

North Devon floor tiles around base.

#FontsOnFriday

A square font on pillars with wooden font cover. Surrounded by floor tiles.

The octagonal lead-lined font of St Mary's church Swaffham Bulbeck near #Cambridge is probably late 13th century
with a 19th century carved cover in medieval style suspended from the roof above by a chain which one would hope is late 20th century or later. 🫣

Late entry for #FontsOnFriday. St Mary of the Assumption, Ufford, Suffolk. Mid C15 font and absolutely extraordinary font cover of similar date. It is telescopic, the lower tier slides up and over the upper tier by means of pulleys. Retains some original colour and gilding. It is wonderful.

Not so much #FontsOnFriday as font cover on Friday. In St James, Castle Acre, #Norfolk is a rather plain 15th century font. The "steeple-like" cover with "arches and spirelets to the Perp canopy with some colouring preserved" (Pevsner) is quite something.

A rather plain stone font under an enormous towering font cover which looks like a steeple with many carved wooden decorative spikes. At the very top a bronze dove on a globe covered in cobwebs.
