There are lots of posts on the City Rail Link (CRL) train stations now (you should go check some of them out).

Karanga-a-hape very er… 'curious gold card' today, I will say. Not sure if we're the new #CRL business KBA anticipated, but… all good vibes all round all the same.

We took the train to town yesterday, and we're absolutely chuffed! ☺️🚇 #CRL

Enjoy this special bumper post, chock-full of great pics & stories, links to wider media coverage, plus some fun (and moving) reflections from our very happy team of "tired nerds": www.greaterauckland.org.nz/2026/09/14/a...

Yesterday was 1st day of the Auckland CRL train stations running, so caught train from Avondale to Manukau (without getting off), then back to town. CRL stations were buzzing but outer ones relatively quiet. #publicTransport #train #CRL #Auckland #TamakiMakaurau #AucklandScenes #somethingBeautiful

Electronic sign at Avondale train station with train disruption warnings: there had been a small fire at the downtown Waitemata station earlier that morning.View from train window of Tamaki Drive with the Waitemata Harbour on the other side of the road.Manukau Station platform looking empty. It is the East terminus of the new East-West line. We got off for a very quick look before hopping back on the same train to go back into town. The mid-town Te Waihorotiu train station's Wellesley Street entrance. There are way more people than at the Manukau train station.

SUCH a fun day, riding the trains and seeing all the people!

And on my way home, I just had to swing by and let Robbie know it all worked out okay. He seemed pretty chuffed. ✊🚇 #CRL

Me, whispering some good news into the ear of (the statue of) Sir Dove-Myer Robinson, a notable former mayor of Auckland City, who from the late 1960s championed what was known as “Robbie’s Rapid Rail”, an underground and electrified rail link for Auckland.

He didn’t quite manage to get it across the line in his lifetime. But I reckon he’d have been pretty chuffed with today’s opening of the City Rail Link, a whole lifetime later. (Brought about in no small part by the tenacious campaigning of a worthy successor - the first mayor of the newly amalgamated “super city”, Len Brown.)

The statue of Robbie, by Tobias Twiss, depicts the small but mighty mayor with one fist in the air. He stands in Aotea Square near the Town Hall, within cooee of the new underground Te Waihorotiu station, predicted to be the city’s busiest railway station. Vindication at last!

You know, if you ignore the lines that make it about cars, it was very appropriate for this song to come on when I was taking the long way around to my destination to take the #Auckland #CRL today!

And all of it is yours and mine,
So let's ride and ride and ride...

Lots of people getting excited about trains in Tāmaki Makaurau today. Which reminded me of Albert Hammond’s song I’m a train. Does anyone else remember else that? #CRL #kikorangi
