How would you scratch build a TTRPG in an isolated setting?

I’ve long thought that TTRPGs could be a useful release in isolated settings. Prison. The Big Brother House. Trapped on holiday in a caravan with the rain pissing down outside. A long train journey.

A core rule for a TTRPG necessarily becomes fiddly.

There are many possible routes you can take in developing your TTRPG. Two alternatives are the choice between using different mechanics to resolve different design issues or having a single mechanic to resolve everything.

Tangibilisation techniques - have the players give a name to an asset.

I have a short demo D&D type scenario I run at conventions.

It’s PWYW on Drivethru:

The pregen PCs arrive at a Fieldholme to find it’s just been attacked by goblins.

Why bother even having a convention?

”if you give your con a "theme" you need to be sure it will increase attendance and engagement, and not decrease it, particularly in the current times of high dropouts and low commitments.“

Let’s put aside Expo-style cons with trade halls.

Hypothetically speaking - if you were to set up a TTRPG convention devoted to a particular IP or the works of a specific author:

A) should GMs be limited to offering scenarios using official systems only.

B) should GMs be ALLOWED to offer scenarios using unofficial systems*

I suspect that some people believe that a ONE SHOT scenario should also be considered a ONE OFF scenario.

I disagree.

If you’re running a campaign at home you may need to create new material every week. Though I’d hope much of that would be self-generating.
