day 30 - vestige

the night after amaris’ blessing is taken and all the emotions in between

[ #📝 | #ffxivwrite2026 | #ffxivwrite ]

"Everything will be alright, I promise. Though... it would be best to keep the truth of this matter to ourselves. I do not wish to burden our friends needlessly."

Minfilia's words about the loss of her blessing echo in Amaris' mind. Keep it secret, say nothing, everything hidden and nothing known. Her teeth clench — she wouldn't have wanted to tell anyone even if Minfilia asked her to. She wouldn't have wanted to admit what has been done to her, what has been taken.

Her eyes are puffy and her cheeks are red. She catches a glimpse of herself in her vanity mirror. Who stares back at her is no Warrior of Light, but a girl who is wounded. A girl who has collapsed in on herself.

In what world did she even deserve a blessing of light? Was Midgardsormr right about her? Fragile. Ignoble. Chosen but not gifted, not truly.

Amaris grips at her sheets before slinging herself to her feet, her body heating up with an angry embarrassment. Fragile she may be, but ignoble she is not. She pulls her shoes and a cover on before storming out into the quiet of the night, her axe in hand. In her rage, she barely notices the patrons of the Seventh Heaven eye her with concerned interest — in fact, she doesn't notice them at all, her vision tunnels as she makes her way out into the fields.

She is not dressed for battle. She doesn't want a fight. Her mind isn't sure what she wants, but her body does. Amaris heaves her axe into the air, swinging it at an invisible enemy. Each swing shoots raw pain through her arms to her back.

It's no longer easy. Strength, powered by light, no longer flows through her veins.

She is no longer the Warrior of Light.

Amaris screams as she chucks her axe to the ground, her body following suit. There are no tears, only the clenched of her fists into the meat of her arms as she hunches over her knees.

She heaves her head up, sucking in a breath as her eyes connect with the Crystal Tower. She wonders if Graha is happy with his lot. She wonders if he would think this a good thing for her.

If she has no blessing, couldn't she just choose something different? She could choose what she wants to do. She could be free.

Amaris frowns at the thought. She wants to be a Warrior of Light, she thinks. More importantly, she wants to be the one to choose if she is — not anyone or anything else.

She sighs before picking her axe up, dirt around the hem of her nightgown and cover, and begins her slow return to the Rising Stones.

There has to be some part of her that is still a Warrior of Light. Her heart. Her hopes. Her. Any scrap of light left is hers to shine, no matter what.

30. Vestige

7.56 MSQ - DRK Quests

The definition took my brain to the lyrics for Footfalls, and I knew what I had to do.

A love letter to FFXIV, and for my WoL within it.
A fitting end for this month.

Story Snippet:

A Lyrical Journey of The Warrior of Light - Peridot Grayflame

Lyrics will feature from most major MSQ songs: Answers, Heavensward, Dragonsong, Revolutions, Shadowbringers, Tomorrow and Tomorrow, Footfalls, Close in the Distance, and Smile

At the end of her journey, Peridot Grayflame sits alone in Dawn's Respite. She takes this time to remember everywhere she has been, everything she has seen, everything she has done. Here now at the end of the first great arc of her life, and ready to embark unto the second, to stop the Solstice. She would now recall all that has come before. She closes her eyes.

I close my eyes, tell us why must we suffer
Release your hands, for your will drags us under
My legs grow tired, tell us where must we wander
How can we carry on if redemption's beyond us?

Day 30 - Vestige

The cousins reminisce in Tora's new cabin.

OHMYGOOOOOOD IT'S THE LAAAAAST DAAAAYYYYYYYYY

#FFXIVwrite #FFXIVwrite2026

Tora waved her hand, catching a thread of aether and igniting it across the candles that sat in the iron fixture that hung from the ceiling.

"And we might need to do some cleaning," she added, seeing more dust on the floor.

"Do you even have a bed yet?" Jacek asked, finally closing the door.

"Nie, but I have the camp bed for tonight and then we can go buy one tomorrow."

"I'd rather stay in the inn room," Jacek replied, ruffling his short hair with one hand. He'd always kept it long, but he wanted to "try something different" and she could tell he was regretting it.

"Go stay in the inn room then." Tora said. "I don't mind one more night of camping. I do not shit higher than my ass."

He laughed.

"I do not shit higher than my ass, but I also know the Inn has a place to shit."

Tora thought about that for a moment.
