Most realms have laws regarding food, though these tend to be more safety regulations than anything.
Only a few actively have bans on certain types of food. In most of Ruquall, for example, eating the meat of seals like dugos is heavily illegal.

Depending on the region and the population , dinosaurs, elemental/material hybrid creatures, and Janglain Forest Beasts are 🧵 (1/?)
The main kingdom in The Masqued Sorcerer has a minimum legal drinking age. The societies around it, on the other hand, do not.

The one major rule in the Nequinum world is never, ever eat the flesh of talking animals. It's tantamount to cannibalism
& In the Neony Kingdom, there are certain times of the year that requires fasting from meat 🧵pt 1

The closest thing to a "law" regarding food is probably one of the sacred tenants held by thunder packs: that waste is a sin. If one is to kill for sustenance, one most show proper respect to prey by utilizing every edible part.

Among the elves, it is forbidden to eat snakes. It's believed that snakes are offshoots of the primordial dragons and are divine creatures, so eating one is one of the few major taboos the elves have. This includes eels and lampreys, which elves always toss back if caught.
Both in Ivory City and in Rainier, people HAVE to get their food from the stores.
The farms in Rainier that I mentioned a couple of days ago are illegal. They pay (in crops) a fee in order to be allowed to continue.
Because life is so prized and Durandios (god of Life) is beloved, meat prep requires atonement and cleansing. Therefore, there are rituals performed before slaughter and special prayers said before eating meat in particular. No such obligation for plants or fish though.

The Alliance has lots of laws regarding food and drink but they’re all food safety related.
There arent any real prohibitions against alcohol/intoxicant consumption aside from societal “hey buddy you’re harshing the vibe for the rest of us with how drunk/high you’re getting”
11) Rules/Morality
I mentioned that Zadans do kill and eat each other. They do still respect life. Killing is only done out of necessity. Basically they follow the Law of the Jungle:
You kill only to eat, or to keep yourself from being eaten.
To do otherwise is taboo.

There are no universal rules, but there are some weird cult-like groups who may have prohibitions. Generally, most people eat everything. There is a general emphasis on eating food that's in season, but that's mostly a guideline and linked to beliefs about health.

There are no rules regarding the manner of slaughter, but within the Redwoods, the manner in which it's done for domestic animals might technically be 𝑗ℎ𝑎𝑡𝑘𝑎 for a Sikh, but that's purely coincidental. The hunted animals they also consume would not ever be 𝑗ℎ𝑎𝑡𝑘𝑎.

11: The most obvious answer in Karnassia (co-created with @jmaxwell-author.bsky.social) is the prohibitions on eating plants in the Kingdom of Valestra. Their diet consists of meat, animal products (dairy, eggs, honey) and mushrooms due to strict prohibition on eating any...
#SeptemberWorldbuilders Fruits and veggies have to be checked for Gold infection and chucked if they have even a few flecks of magic on them. In cities, that means you’re putting a LOT of trust in merchants/grocers, and the penalty for not checking for/disclosing Gold is high.
Hmm... not much! Except cannibalism (funny considering the signs the world keeps throwing at me recently)
Of course, cannibalism means different things to different animals. Humans don't eat each other, but your lovely cow teacher isn't going to be enjoying steak either+

The usual cows, pigs, chickens, turkeys, and such. Mammoth and dinosaur as well, at least in the places where Dinosaurs are not endangered. Also insect is not an uncommon food stuff
Sorry for the late interactions! Just, so much driving today ;~;...
Anyway, eating animals in the Library is tricky. Guardians aren't actually animals, so they don't mind, but when your colleagues include talking cats, professorial cows, and the lovely daycare alpaca,

I just wrote a section where my Mc swam out into the sea with his friend since it’s basically in his back yard to go forage for invertebrates for breakfast. It’s not common practice
But in a pinch a person can do if they needed to. And while there, he tells his friend 🪡
Good morning, #SeptemberWorldbuilders! What are the rules/laws/morals regarding food in your fictional world? Anything that must be eaten at a certain time? Certain ways animals are slaughtered? Anything forbidden?
