A beautiful and unusual golden grasshopper (unlike the duller brown and gray friends also in the garden) hanging onto the silver-purple Salvia yangii clusters showing a clear view of its underside as it clings on.

Bug with big swollen tan abdomen, reddish-brown thorax and head, small dark red eyes, tan mid- and hind-legs, and dark bands on fore-legs. Thin tan antennae with a few long segments. Head and forelegs are covered with spikes, just a few on thorax and abdomen. On small flower buds, clinging to the green stem. Long mouthpart extending from head and curving down to disappear behind the flower.
