I always get distracted by the geology along shorelines like this. The water has worn the sandstone into hollows, curves, and strange little pockets, while the forest has claimed pretty much everything above the tide line.

An idyllic scene, but off to the right is Slapton Ley, site of the disastrous "Operation Tiger" of WWII (a training exercise for the D-Day landings). There's a salvaged Sherman tank at a memorial there.
