In Marshall, NC, Hurricane Helene's floodwaters swept away 10 downtown buildings in 2024. This summer, I asked the mayor if Michael Whatley — whom Trump said would be "very much in charge" of recovery — had reached out or played a role in rebuilding. He said no.

It’s been a busy week! I really enjoyed my time visiting the university campuses. Yesterday, we stopped by the Caldwell County Agricultural Fair, and today, Shari and I headed over to the Elkin Pumpkin Festival. Tomorrow, we will be in Stokes County for their Democratic rally.
