A male Monarch Butterfly sipping nectar from one of several orange Zinnia flowers at the New England Botanic Garden at Tower Hill in Boylston, MA. The butterfly has bright orange upperwings with black veins, wide black borders with 2 rows of white spots, and two black spots on the hindwings. The head and body are black with white speckles and long black antennae. There are green leaves around the flowers.

Bug with big swollen tan abdomen, reddish-brown thorax and head, small dark red eyes, tan mid- and hind-legs, and dark bands on fore-legs. Thin tan antennae with a few long segments. Head and forelegs are covered with spikes, just a few on thorax and abdomen. On small flower buds, clinging to the green stem. Long mouthpart extending from head and curving down to disappear behind the flower.
