Fight over #crumbs
that fall from above
they are so distracted
and focused on survival
they have no energy
to focus on the
bigger piece of the pie
or the ones who
dole out the slices
We are all memories in the making
Each moment each breath
Giving not taking
Building not breaking
Treasure is earth.

“Mary Mackey's poems are powerful, beautiful, and have extraordinary range. This is the poetry of a woman who has lived richly, and felt deeply. May her concern for the planet help save it.”

A more mild
Dissociation
Than those
Who might be
Uncomfortable
Are accustomed to
Don’t say
the B word,
I’m not that,
I know women
much braver,
stronger,
than me;
Don’t give
me medals,
I won nothing
but a room
of my own
far from the fray
where I must
still fight
for what I gave up

So, what is a Zemi?
The Zemis in the poem are the homes to the spirits of the forest and the natural world; trees, water, wind, earth, animals, bird and insects.
Enter their world, in the pages of ‘The Zemis’.
