Really surprised to see a Red Admiral #butterfly earlier this afternoon, considering it's almost October. Not the best picture cause it Really didn't want to have its picture taken or have me anywhere near it. #butterflies #insects #bugsky

In brilliant sunlight, green-yellow leaves disguise a butterfly of the same shade. You can make out her antennae and fuzzy head, her eye divided horizontally into dark and light halves, her wing repeating the leaf shapes.

Longhorn #bees (probably Melissodes druriellus) are back at Legacy Park for the fall. Males (like this one) seem to emerge a little earlier than females. These were on goldenrod but as more of the little white asters (symphyotrichum) comes into bloom they will shift over there.
