The Hidden Oasis and the Starflow River Valley both have both diverse and easily accessible medical institutions, throughout.

Celebrant Halls, Peripatetic Estates, and Mercenaries' Guild Outposts, all dot the landscape of the 🧵

Good morning, #Septopolis.

Soft infrastructure goes a bit wider than what I've mentioned on the card (and has been or will be on other questions), so today is focusing social support system.

This can include welfare or whatever term is used for your world if you want more to answer with!

A daily prompt card for #Septopolis 2026, hosted by @khonri.com.

Infrastructure, 19. How well developed are the softer elements of infrastructure here, namely medical care and education? Is there a stratification of quality across areas, and if so, what drives it?

Interpret each prompt as suits your needs! Talk about relevant characters! Yap! Or don't! Develop a new city or whatever or talk about one you already built. Make friends.

The background features a slightly blurred and purple hued image of the upper section of a set photograph of Main Commercial Street in Fritz Lang's Metropolis (UFA, 1927) of towering buildings.

Stone is the most favored material for building. Older buildings favor a more ornate style than current ones do, and you can see the traditions change as you walk east, since most buildings are repurposed rather than rebuilt.

Anssen is a city of 100,000 people. After a little researching around, I'll use Kyoto city as my physical model, since i used to live there. Take Kyoto, turn it 90 degrees so that the mountains are to the west, and the rivers flow east to the sea.

The elementals could cripple the city - or even destroy it - if they wanted to. So people pay their respect. #Septopolis

I alluded to this earlier, but Ignis Eve is a big one. Twice a year, when the sun sets directly behind the central cone. Special gifts are given to the elementals. Humans wear masks and bring food to neighbors. It's a holiday of kindness. The Royals do not participate.

I haven't had time to look too deeply today #Septopolis but it sounds like today Eloy's potable water is provided by 4 wells? And they think it'll be fine for years? 🤔 I'd assume canals were involved, but maybe that's for farming. The site where I envision #HistorytownAZ could access city water...

#Septopolis 18:

Wertham City has all the infrastructure expected from a major American city, including multiple power plants and a surprisingly well-guarded water reservoir, but it sadly falls short in its handling of trash: not enough sanitation workers, barely any recycling, tons of illegal dumps

A Roman dumpster, its top half burned and melted, but still full of trash.A photo of the street in front of my old Rome apartment. So much trash, you have no idea.

West Harewood gets its water from wells and about 70% of its electricity from solar panels. The rest comes from Beaversbridge via cables, one of the many perks of signing up with Central Planning. The Public Works Collective handles trash collection and wastewater management.

Imma be so real with you. *handwaves* it's magic

(I did do a bit of work on how this stuff works in a way earlier manuscript in this same world, where it was actually important to one character and the wider plot. But otherwise yeah, it works, whatever 🤷‍♀️)

Funny you should mention "high level" since that's where the floating cities of Venus are. :) (About 100km above the surface.)

Anywho, each city in MK has its own water source and its own waste management system for both sewage and composting, anything biodegradable. The concern is to limit cross-contamination as much as possible in the areas outside the

Early humans developed a system of cisterns and aqueducts feeding water from rain--supplemented with miracles as necessary--throughout the city.

Dwarven architects and, more recently, gnomish tinkers expanded on and improved the system so every house and public space has running water.

Fireridge is surrounded by water, but it's seawater that would require infeasible processing to become potable. Ground water is much easier to process, so Fireridge Public Works draw from aquifers. (They then fill it with whatever chemicals Pearlshot Cyber want to experiment with).

London/Olympia is able to access essential items with ease. They use practically any means for them like magic and human tech for waste disposal and also purifying magic for polluted water.

There is also such a thing as free trade with the rest of the world.

For most of their support infrastructure, it's equivalent to what we have IRL:

• Water: collected from dams, aquifers, and desalinated sea water, filtered, fluoridated, and distributed via modern plumbing.

Human waste works the same but in reverse, more or less.

@adorkablesmile.bsky.socialSep 18, 2026, 7:05 PM

#Septopolis The answer to most of these is: the river.

Fresh water comes down from the river and the rain, and collects in the temple. There are underground connections which run to wells and fountains throughout the centre of the city.
