I usually start my beginnings somewhere that the reader can instantly relate to. Someone telling a joke, a stressgul phone call, etc.
The familiarity is an easy way to bring people in. #TBBChat

#TBBChat It depends on the kind of story I tell. With longer narratives (like The Witch of Eden Hollow), I like to introduce the characters we're following first (and their inciting incidents) before the main plot begins.
Shorter ones I usually start right away or I start with the stepping stones.
#tbbchat I usually choose where to start after I’ve written the first draft, so I can start as close to the action as possible.
My stories begin as dreams. I take the dream, build a world, create a few characters, and then throw it in the blender. The first scene that comes out becomes my "first draft" beginning. Sometimes that sticks, sometimes I need to change things up a bit to make a better reader experience. #TBBChat
#tbbchat beginnings have always been my favorite~ exploring new worlds and new characters.
Wrongly, if experience is any measure. :P
More seriously, I'm getting better. Mostly I start as close to what gets the plot rolling as I can while giving me space to establish key elements of the world and MC. Give you enough to understand and then we're off, the rest will come.
Hello, there, #TBBChat! I’m T. E. LaMonte. I write mostly science fiction and fantasy, and I’m also an artist and illustrator.
Fun fact about me: I didn’t start enjoying reading until my teens, and it was because of video games.
Old school RPGs, where you had to read along with the story 💙

... Huh. I don't. At least not consciously. For me, the beginning is the beginning. Oh, there might be flashbacks to the distant past, but by and large, the story starts when (or just moments before) Plot Stuff starts happening to my characters.

!? I truly don’t know how to answer this really smart question. I feel silly saying that I just close my eyes and let the story happen inside my head… but thats the truth of it. I don’t really pick when we start, if anything the characters do that by barging in and telling me their story.
Vibes? I was always taught start late, leave early, so I'm sure some of that rubs off subconsciously. I want enough to give a sense of the world while also not dragging it out until Something Happens. #TBBChat

My preference is to find the moment I can most effectively emotionally connect my reader to my main character, before the inciting event hits (if it's not the exact same moment). My stories are very character-driven, so my priority is to get my reader on board with who'll they'll follow.
1000% Endings. I have such a hard time finding the right way to begin and those always need a hundred painful edits.
The end, though? Watching all my plans come to fruition, all the lines of paint coalesce into the big picture, all the threads become tapestry? Good Shit TM
Heeeeey another #TBBChat I'm free for !!
