No seaside scenes yet in my works, though that will likely change once I begin writing Tail-Wing Trackers 3: Flames and Flirtations.

There’s at least one scene where Veldi & her friends visit the beach she grew up enjoying so much as a young girl.

Once in Accountant isekai. I might in my newer stories at some point, too.

I have (sort of) for #MiwwduSitsomSelkieWIP. That is, there's a scene where Dave dreams that he's at the beach, building a sandcastle with his sister. Hero is stuck in his dreams at that point and they're trying to get him out.

#SeptemberWorldbuilders Yes! The town is between mountains and the ocean, and important scenes happen on an invisible boat. The ocean is a difficult sight when you haven’t seen it for a century, even more when you’re a vampire who’s only comfortable on land.

The seaside has not yet come up, but I think when Amaurodios first sees the great expanse of water he's going to be mind boggled. As it is, the first time he saw a brook he was mightily confused and told it to "not all talk at once" because he couldn't understand it.

I almost made a snippet, but ran out of time.

The only "sea" I have in my current works is in the fantasy Hellscape. It's a gorgeous body of water made more spectacular by the way the sky in Hell changes colors every few hours along the whole color-spectrum...

Werlll I talk a lot about SP already and it's technically sea-center... We spend a lot of time in Bibbe but it's a mangrove swamp the forest is really the punchline. How about the cold waters and harsh coastline of Elandjanjir?

Together, they went to the far edge of the square, where the city ran out, nothing between them and nature. The ocean raged, smashing itself against the shore and sending great gouts of spume into the air. He hadn’t realized there was a staircase until they arrived at it, a walkway that gave people access down from the relative safety of the square to the water’s edge. He couldn’t fathom why anyone would want to get closer to it. It seemed so terribly likely, if the water itself didn’t drown you, gelid malachite tentacles would reach out and grab you.
He followed his friends, though, because that was where they were headed and they knew this place better than he did. When he hit the head of the staircase, he saw it went down less than a story. It ended on a wharf parallel to the edge of the paved area above, not deep, but wide enough for all of them to gather there. At the far end was a ramp leading down into the water, so that even the less aggressive waves swamped it almost to the level where they stood.

Day 15

I don't write many seaside scenes. Most water related scenes I write are by a lake or a river. I'm much more of a fresh water gal. The realm in my WIP is landlocked, so no sea. Bogs, oh yes, but no fun times there.

September Worldbuilders hosted by Kira of the Wind. Week 3 Ocean. 15: Have you written any seaside scenes? What happened? How did your characters feel? Share a snippet if you'd like!

So I might not have much to say this week because I kind of inadvertently worldbuilt a scenario where this society interacts with the sea as little as possible…

And unfortunately when the cast does see the ocean, it’s in a pretty ominous context…

Jonah sat back down and told Arlo, "We may continue. The Watcher and his men will escort us."
"Why the escort at all?" Arlo asked, cracking the reins in his hands to get the carriage moving again. "Your roads have been safe enough this whole time."
Jonah did not answer, opting instead to sit back and watch the countryside roll by. Arlo supposed Jonah didn't have to answer his questions anymore.
So he followed the Watcher through the afternoon. Slowly, the Holy City of the Faithful drew closer.
The road began to climb more steeply, tracking a few miles east of the city before turning back west. After it did, the road ran along cliffs overlooking the Dagger Sea, and Arlo could hear the distant sound of waves crashing below. The city was built around a particularly high cliff, its tall, black, stone walls encircling the bottom of a rise that jutted out into the waves.
Though he could see little of the city itself as they approached, he could see a massive building grand enough to rival any in the Tower City crouched up on that cliff. When they were within a mile he could make out figures atop the wall, hundreds of them dressed exactly like their escort. As they got within a hundred yards, the giant gates of the city began to creak open, metal screaming from disuse.
Jonah opened the shutter behind him before standing.
"Welcome," he said, hands clasped in front of him and eyes gone wild with reverence, "to Megiddo, Bastion of the Faithful."

Oh yes, many seaside scenes; the story that kicks my series off starts with my MC jumping into the sea. There isn’t one of the things in which a character is not in or by the water
Most recently b had my MC swim out to a little reef area to catch breakfast

15: Most Karnassia stories (co-authored with @jmaxwell-author.bsky.social) have at least one seaside scene and at least one character who hates traveling by boat for a variety of reasons: whether that's fear of drowning, seasickness, claustrophobia, or some other reason.

Does being on a boat at sea count? Because if so Lastak gets on a dubious ferry to flee the island she was on rather early in the story. The primary thing she feels through most of it is anxiety and apprehension because she's just managed to ruin her own planning.

For Dust and Shadows
-Peter has a small breakdown when he remembers seeing Tinkerbell letting Wendy fall
#WritingCommunity

“I know…but what am I supposed to do?!” He asked, “This-this is different.”
	Shadow still remained silent.
“Just leave me alone!” Peter snapped at his shadow. It nodded and reattached itself. Leaving Peter alone as the storm continued to rage on.
Slowly, he walked over to the mountain’s edge overlooking the waters below. The wind and waves crashed against the mountainside. The look Tinkerbell had when it happened. Wendy’s scream as she fell. His hand went to his chest, as he felt his breathing becoming harder. The storm became more violent now. The rain fell like bullets, and the wind roared.
It was all too much!
Peter flew up toward the storm clouds and screamed, echoing thunder followed.

#SeptemberWorldbuilders My favorite seaside scene is at the start of the fifth Scaleshifter book. Ziya, as a black dragon, loves the ocean and goes on a morning hunt. It starts the book with domestic bliss in dragon form after a climactic battle in the previous book ❤️❤️❤️

With Wardenreach being landlocked, my characters have never seen the ocean before. When they first come to it, they're positively overwhelmed!

#SeptemberWorldbuilders The Island is the only permanent land on Celesta, so the worldwide ocean is a constant primary force in the lives of the people. With DayWalls separating the 6 inhabited "Days" (LastDay is uninhabited), travel is done via Celesta's colorful, wide, wing-sailed trimaran boats.

@frjosom.bsky.socialSep 15, 2026, 6:29 AM

#SeptemberWorldbuilders A bit late on this one, but so far I know of 1 tradition & 1 "proscription": no seafood is served at LastDay Dinner, & it is forbidden to eat "land animals", which includes the feathered, flying "corbs". (No loss, as land critters taste awful.)

#SeptemberWorldbuilders!

I don't think there any seaside scenes in #LionGirl, considering East Library is the only campus that doesn't make an appearance DX

Well, there *is* someone important from East and we might get her flashbacks...

Only she was bedridden the entire time she lived there DX

#SeptemberWOrldbuilders I missed this one, but had to add haha! My blood god Arsolvet, MC in book 1, did recreate a food source for a tribe of Daggerspine (big hyena-like quadrupeds with large dorsal spines off vertebrae) to help stabilize them.

When the tentacles are red, detach and eat ;) lol

Snail like creature with support tendrils anchored to the cavern wall. There is an attached bowl like structure on one side with blood in it. Front side of the creature is a mass of red and purple tentacles. Function of this creature is to feed populations with its detachable tentacles. When they turn red, they are ready to be pulled off and consumed (most prefer to cook first). They will regenerate like lizard tails with additional blood donations in the basin. Original versions had elongated fangs and grappling claws that were meant for attaching to Arsolvet's great warbeasts skeletal structure and carried into warzones as mobile food sources. Those versions would leech material from the warbeasts digestive tract, which was usually filled with the dead and dying from the battlefield, from all sides.
