I can't. By that, I mean I have an audio processing disorder. I struggle to absorb the information to the point that it takes me completely out of the story.
It is really unfortunate because some narrations are amazing.

As a writer, I'd like to record my books myself. Maybe, one day, when I'll have a quiet room. I'd like my readers to access all format of reading, and this is missing.
As a reader, they are not for me. I tune out too fast and I am very particular with voice and pitch. I'm out if the

Audiobooks are an incredibly valid and great way to engage with fiction, period.

I also just prefer physically holding a book in my hand as I read. They're important for accessibility reasons and I do respect the work that goes into making them.

@paulhikari.bsky.socialAudiobooks are awesome, and I’m not just saying that as somebody who narrated a few. They let you take in books in a way where you otherwise wouldn’t be able to read them. Plus, they play into historic oral tradition.

At the same time, I do know my reliance on them is a symptom of my fractured attention span.

Strange as it sounds, I happen to LOVE audiobooks. I do love having to hold things, much like my boyfriend Alexander who doesn't own an e-reader... But I really love audiobooks because of how well everything is read to you, and for disabled folks with vision...
