We see the differences in male and female tendencies in that regard even today. First of all, however, throughout our history this extra assistance needed by mothers has pushed for single male-female units — monogamy — with exceptions to the contrary pushing through only occasionally and to various degrees in only some cul- tures, but if so, especially among the well-to-do in those societies. For in some societies, men with excess resources have the luxury of time for such dalliances, the resources to facilitate them, along with, importantly, the power to keep from being pressured by others in the group to do otherwise and to be like the rest in the group, for example, through moralizing. They are above such restrictions as falls upon the rest of their group, and in such a situation, we see the tendencies of men to manifest as they would.

The point is we have polygamy and polyandry as human potentials, but polygamy — that is, one man with two or more women — vastly trumps polyandry in terms of its occurrence. Furthermore, and just ask any woman, it is the man who is more likely to cheat. That is more than just a complaint or criticism from women, it is actually the case, statistically, and in virtually all cultures. Whether it is considered “cheating,” however, is culturally variable.

…interviewer about his take on the scary and unprecedented retreat from stocks and those days of multihundred point losses, one after the other. This elderly obviously seasoned personality seemed to balloon out several sizes of his suit in his sheer incomprehension and his near perfect confusion. Still, raising his voicing, a little more squeaky and almost embarrassed, puffer-fish guy held forth, as if written on tablets, first, how “all the traders have lost money” and then, “Nobody’s doing okay.... .” But his afterthought hit me like a spear: He pleaded, “I mean who last year at this time foresaw anything like this coming.... I mean,” he said “anything at all, at all, like this coming up?”

At home, there was no way to restrain the howl of laughter that last comment triggered in me. While at the exact same time, I experienced this sharp pain in my belly, like I’d been stuck, well and good, by a spear. I couldn’t believe this “expert’s” comment.
“...our conception, gestation, and birth... can be seen to form our underlying myths ... but much more than that. They also create the very foundational templates upon which we build our view of reality — physical, social, emotional, spiritual, and philosophical....”

Carl Jung, decades ago, in many thoroughly encompassing works, expressed concepts similar to mine regarding biocultural patterns undergirding reality. He saw them as archetypes and cumulatively they comprised our collective unconscious. Among other things, this collective unconscious was a pattern, common to all humans, underlying and configuring all our thoughts, beliefs, and perspectives on reality. So it is species-specific. According to Jung, the collective unconscious with its archetypal forms shaping how we think comprises the hereditary remnants of and is the human equivalent of what is called instinct in animals.
