@vanstanwyck.bsky.socialLucille Ball as the smart, reliable secretary Kathleen checks another box on the #NoirChecklist, but Lucy's vivacious quick wit brings fresh sparkle to the "good girl" role. It returned the favor by reviving her career. More on that from @tommykrasker.bsky.social.

@ladykdesigns.bsky.socialIda Lupino was initially cast as Kathleen, but had to withdraw because of scheduling conflicts, and Fred MacMurray was originally slated for the role of Galt.
@vanstanwyck.bsky.socialRight?! Don't we all.
@vanstanwyck.bsky.socialNormally you could add rear projection to the #NoirChecklist here, but not in #TheDarkCorner. There are four windows in the office and the views we see are all perfectly consistent in angle, perspective and realistic variety. This was filmed in the office building we saw outside.

@vanstanwyck.bsky.socialThe stomping grapes scene is amazing.
@vanstanwyck.bsky.socialReed Hadley as Lt. Frank Reeves:
You might recognize him as the doctor Gene Tierney fails to manipulate in LEAVE HER TO HEAVEN (1945), or his sonorous deep voice as the narrator in noirs like BOOMERANG (1947), T-MEN (1947) and HE WALKED BY NIGHT (1948). #TheDarkCorner #TheNoirCollective
@vanstanwyck.bsky.socialHidey-ho noirborino!
@vanstanwyck.bsky.socialThe striped shadows from blinds are a given for the #NoirChecklist, of course, but the ones in Galt's office have extra depth and dimension, like when he opens the inner door and there's a whole new set behind him angled to the ones on the wall.
