Yesterday While on my Daily Walk I spotted a beautiful little common carder bee on a Flower and captured it on my Canon EOS R50!

Happy #flyfriday! This is a soldier fly of genus Psellidotus. Some flies in that genus have really surprising mint-green coloration, but this one is a bit more sedate. I’ve only found these a handful of times over the years. From May 2023.

The photograph features a detailed macro close-up of a bee—resembling an Ivy Bee (Colletes hederae)—perched on a starburst-like cluster of green ivy flower buds.  The Bee: Clinging to the right side of the cluster, the bee has a fuzzy, golden-brown thorax and an abdomen patterned with crisp, alternating bands of bright yellow and black. Found in a chunk of Ukrainian amber, this scorpion is a member of a genus found across the eocene european ambers, and was the first fossil scorpion named in Ukraine. My research says this is a northern paper wasp. (Please correct me if I'm wrong @grays.art) It is perched on a Sweet William blossom, in our garden this week. There just happens to be a paper wasp nest above this flower, under the house eaves!

A mostly black wasp eyes the camera warily while perched on a pink Sweet William blossom. It has yellowish legs, thin dark wings and narrow yellow stripes on its abdomen. The blossom is hanging down with delicate ruffley petals and pale green receptacle. There are other buds and darker greenery surrounding. The house side is in the background.
