Banned book highlight: "Tuck Everlasting" by Natalie Babbitt. 🌿

Often challenged for themes of death, this classic reflects a core truth of doula care: mortality gives life meaning, and death is a natural cycle—not something to fear or censor.

Front cover of Tuck Everlasting: The Graphic Novel. The top text reads "NATALIE BABBITT'S TUCK EVERLASTING" in dark serif font, with "THE GRAPHIC NOVEL" centered beneath it. The watercolor illustration displays a warm sunset sky with a low sun over a lake. Tall pine trees frame the scene, with a cozy log cabin showing glowing yellow windows on the right bank. In the distance, two figures sit in a small blue rowboat on the water. The bottom text reads "ADAPTED AND ILLUSTRATED BY K. WOODMAN-MAYNARD".Front cover of the novel Tuck Everlasting by Natalie Babbitt. The author's name is printed in large brown text across the top, above the book title in outlined serif letters. On the left is a circular emblem reading "CELEBRATING 50 YEARS - FOREWORD by Gabrielle Zevin". The lower half features a sepia-toned watercolor scene of a small red cabin surrounded by pine trees on the shore of a lake, with two dark silhouette figures in a rowboat on the water reflecting the red house.

It's #BannedBooksWeek! School boards often decide which books stay on the shelf, but aren't on every ballot this November. Some are elected in other months, and some are appointed. Check LDF.vote, and if a school board seat is up, use your vote so diverse voices aren't silenced.

A person is entering a building with a brick exterior, where a "Voting" sign is displayed. They are wearing a shirt that says "prepared to vote" with additional text not fully visible. Another sign on the door requests that cell phones be turned off or silenced.

A seasonal display in the window is easy. Selling a contested book is a commitment, and that's what our LGBTQ+ elders deserve.💕

That's why this book is from our Banned & Beloved list (affiliate link): bookshop.org/a/128244/978...

My picks (so far) for #BannedBooksWeek. 1.To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. A book exploring themes of racism and moral courage that also explores a young girl’s childhood in the American south in the 1930s.

I'm excited to go home to Detroit this weekend.

Going to see family, eat some good food, just be "Freddie," and participate in the Banned Together Book Fest on Saturday, 10/10/26 in downtown Ferndale.
