Very little out this week except two splashes of yellow. Eggs and custard and gorse hanging on in there. Spied at Cannock Chase. #wildflowerhour

Annual management week at VP, also a chance to check out plants on the drawdown zone. Great to see the Limosella aquatica (Mudwort) having a big year. Plenty of Rumex maritimus (Golden Dock) too and delighted to find a plant of Rumex x knafii (Golden x Clustered) new to VC40! #wildflowerhour

A somewhat less typical location for Sea Rush, Juncus maritimus growing in an old limestone quarry at RSPB Hodbarrow. This species is typical of two saltmarsh communities but does also grow on rocky shores and low cliff tops.

With the season progressing I find myself out in the gorgeous evening light more often as I squeeze the most from the shortening days.

This Knapweed looked so beautiful. I love the fringed bracts of the involucre that hold those fabulous unruly purple petals in place. Just lovely.💜

The heather moorlands are preparing for winter but here and there the odd plant is still trying to bloom! #wildflowerhour

What I believe is annual mercury (Mercurialis annua) flowering as an agricultural weed in this glorious pumpkin patch on the Hoo Peninsula in Kent this afternoon (centre, just above and to the left of the largest orange pumpkin) 🎃

A pumpkin patch featuring pumpkins that are orange, pale blue and red, amidst numerous weeds including the annual mercury which is dead centre in this photo. The sky is a beautiful blue with a few clouds.

I recently revisited the area where I supervised the first phase of a nature development project. I found Lesser Marshwort (Helosciadium inundatum), Water Purslane and Jersey Cudweed (Gnaphalium luteoalbum). #WildflowerHour

A rather late arrival at the floral ball. When the rest of our Meadowsweet has long gone to seed, this rather small plant is just coming into flower!
#WildflowerHour

Just left of centre a cluster of small white flowers appears on a tall thin stem. There are unopened buds above it. To its right a small common reed. The background is mostly defocussed green vegetation.

Stalk's-Bill, still flowering! #WildFlowerHour I'm missing seeing other small geranium plants, there would usually be far more remaining into the autumn...

Great to see the Lesser Calamint came back after the September mowing.
Also nice to see a few Chicory flowers still in bloom 🙂
