I almost reached out to that shadowy figure, but Beryx lifted his right hand to my face, turned it to him, and kissed me. I lost myself in the kiss, dropping my anger, and reached back, placing my hand on his neck to keep his lips on mine. He slid his hand down my throat to rest on my stomach and my body warmed with need. I wanted to be home so he could slip his hand lower.

"Apprentice Detective Angelic, Mister Drascul, would you please pay attention," Ramah addressed us from the podium. I slowly pulled away from Bery's lips and turned to the Angekæ* with a glare worthy of the idiocy he was spouting. Cameras flashed, reminding me that this was a press attended event, and I Shouldn't do thing I would want to be headline news tomorrow. We were at the back of the room, and no one would've noticed our little make out session had he not called us out.

Ramah dropped his eyes to his notes, and I was done with this little soirée. The puppet addressing the room wasn't worth our time, and staying would only make me angry or blow up, which would draw more attention to me.

“Thank you," Ramah acknowledged as he searched his notes for where he'd left off. I slipped my hand from Beryx's neck, down his arm to his hand

that was on my stomach and laced my fingers in his. I wouldn't leave without a parting swat at the Regional Director. He needed to know just how royally he screwed up by calling us out like a couple of horny teenagers at a school assembly.

Whoever was pulling his strings knew I was on the brink of shyfting when Beryx calmed me. They wanted me to blow up and show everyone how much power I still held. I was not a pawn to be used like that. I glanced back at Beryx.

"I'm done pretending to listen to Ramah llama ding-dong. Let's get out of here, "I projected, and he smirked, standing straighter. He was waiting for my signal. He knew me so well.

When Ramah looked up from his notes, spouting utter nonsense about stricter laws concerning teleportation, I flipped him off and teleported Beryx and I to his bike. I tied my dress up again as he swung his leg over it and grinned.

"I was about to ask when you wanted to leave," he commented. I sent all the pins holding my hair home and shook out my hair, massaging my scalp. I summoned our helmets from home and slid his onto his head…

"I do, but right now isn't the time to add a little one to the mix," I slid back, not shooting the idea down entirely. Kids could wait until after I was a Marshal, maybe even Director, and incapacitated the mentakinetic asshat prowling around my metaphysical shields.

"Kids are portable," she argued, gesturing to the car seat.

"Kids are easy targets, and I have too many enemies," I grumbled under my breath as Forseti pulled the door open. We walked inside, and Zeldya let go of my arm.

"Oh well, it was worth a shot," she said, and I grabbed her hand before she could run away. "Yes?"

No more white hair, wrinkles, or sagging skin. His dark chestnut hair reminded me of his mother, but his bright blue eyes were all his grandfather. He dipped his head to me then looked at Claude.

“Apologies, I was held up,” he straightened the tie he wore, and Rhiannon eyed him then shook her head.

“You must reign in your urges if you wish to keep your seat on this Council. If you do not, I will replace you as well,” the Maker warned. Morpheus met the Maker’s eyes then dropped his to the table as his deep ebony skin paled a few shades.

“Yes, Mi’ Dagas,” he agreed, before coming to sit. Rhiannon’s eyes slid to the doors, and my anxiety rose. We were only missing one Angeles now. Hope was never late.

I turned to Rhiannon and saw what I would’ve called fear in anyone else’s eyes. For the Maker, it was worry. He knew she would arrive, but the concern said it wouldn’t be pretty. She’d been delayed by someone on the other side, and my stomach dropped at the thought.
