Swift Concurrency may get a cheap, stable task ID. SE-0553 proposes `Task.currentID` for tracing, logging and profiling, targeting single-digit-nanosecond access with no allocations. IDs are process-local, stable and never reused.

How does swift-dependencies make overrides follow async work? I looked at its TaskLocal storage, @Dependency lookup, testing model, and SwiftUI integration.

Another day working on TVTastic. Actually doing most of the development on Linux these days. But most of it is already working fine using @pointfree.co packages. When @moreswift.dev swiftcrossui adds Observable support I even can start a Linux UI!

Most heatmaps use rectangular grids, but with Swift Charts we can use PointPlots to arrange cells with alternative shapes. In my new post, we explore hexagonal cells for spatial data.

Working nicely today on TVTastic. Syncing channels + channel lists of a VU+ to a Sqlite works now. @pointfree.co SQLiteData + StructuredQueries makes this a lot easier and testable than plain CoreData!

4 Swift Evolution proposals changed status this week.

The tracker checks the official metadata daily and keeps a readable history, so you don't have to monitor every proposal manually.

Doing some very basic UI work for the dial. I added a new event that fires for each digit so I can add a bit of digital feedback as the physical dial rotates

Besides reviewing code, I've been using SwiftFairy while building new features. Asking the agent to check SwiftFairy before working on Swift or SwiftUI code allows it to pull in relevant examples for the APIs it's about to use.

I’ve reduced my flash writing code down to the absolute minimum: writing three bytes from a pointer.

I've used pretty much the same code for sending data over USB so I'm sure why writing to flash fails

#SwiftLang #RaspberryPiPico

The following code snippet for writing to flash:

var byte: UInt8 = 0xAA
withUnsafeMutablePointer(to: &byte) { bytes in
	bytes[1] = 0xBB
	bytes[2] = 0xCC
	let rc = flash_safe_execute( { safePointer in
		guard let safePointer else { return }
		flash_range_program(0x80000, safePointer, 3)
	}, bytes, 2000)
}

We've released a new developer tool! SwiftFairy is a native Mac app that reviews your AI agent's Swift and SwiftUI code locally on device and provides focused guidance and improvement suggestions.

Excited for you to try it out!

Swift 6.4 makes cross-platform Swift a little less special-case: Swift Build is now SwiftPM’s default build engine across macOS, Linux and Windows, and Subprocess reached 1.0 as a stable cross-platform process API.

Swift Crypto is still closely tied to CryptoKit as #Swift expands across servers, Windows, Android and embedded.

A new discussion asks if the ecosystem needs a crypto package that can evolve independently.

A new Swift pitch adds `skip()` to `UnkeyedDecodingContainer`.

A failed decode can leave an array on the same index. `skip()` makes recovery explicit: fail, skip one value, continue.

I wanted to understand the depth of field technique in Domenico Bruzzese's Blurry, so I made my own version of one of his demos in Ollin.

#Swift 6.4 feels less like an Apple-platform release and more like a cross-platform systems release.

Swift Build is now SwiftPM’s default, Subprocess is 1.0, Wasm bridging is up to 40× faster, and Android/Embedded keep moving forward

I'm also particularly pleased with the macro I built for creating a Codable representation of a struct with optional versions of every property for use as a template, because adding new properties was flawless
