Place-Royale: the French birthplace of Quebec. This lively public square was the city’s commercial heart until the mid-19th century... the Market Square of the 1725–1750 period. A dense cluster of dwellings featuring two- or three-story stone houses, firewalls and wide chimneys, gable roofs, and multi-pane windows. This is where it all began, when Samuel de Champlain built his first dwelling. Archaeological excavations have unearthed the remains of this settlement; their outlines can be seen traced in gray on the ground near the church.
The Fresque des Québécois is a colossal *trompe-l'œil* mural covering an area of 420 m², located at the corner of Rue Notre-Dame in the Petit Champlain district of Old Quebec. The creation of the mural, which was inaugurated on October 17, 1999, was supervised by experts—including historians and geographers...

Place-Royale : le berceau français du Québec. Cette place publique animée fut le cœur commercial de la ville jusqu’au milieu du XIXe siècle... la place du marché de la période 1725-1750. Un ensemble dense d’habitations composé de maisons en pierre de deux ou trois étages, dotées de murs coupe-feu, de larges cheminées, de toits à pignons et de fenêtres à petits carreaux. C’est ici que tout a commencé, lorsque Samuel de Champlain a construit sa première demeure. Des fouilles archéologiques ont mis au jour les vestiges de cet établissement ; on peut en voir le tracé dessiné en gris sur le sol, près de l’église.
La *Fresque des Québécois* est une immense murale en trompe-l'œil d'une superficie de 420 m², située à l'angle de la rue Notre-Dame, dans le quartier du Petit-Champlain du Vieux-Québec. La réalisation de cette œuvre, inaugurée le 17 octobre 1999, a été supervisée par des experts — notamment des historiens et des géographes...
