Opening a bubble wrapped package on a table, with the cardboard package sat just off to the top of the picture. 🏁 Finished reading @jasonschreier.bsky.social “Press Reset” today, 📗 of a trilogy.

Where previous book looked at the games, this looks at studios and people.

Time is a precious resource. I don’t think I could tolerate mine being wasted by 🤦‍♂️ execs.

📚🎮 #VideoGames 🕹️ #NonFictionBooks 💡📚💙 #BookSky 🦋

Three paperback books, all be Jason Schreier, arranged in a row on a table. From left to right they are “Blood, Sweat, and Pixels”, “Press Reset” and then “Play Nice”. There is a yellow bookmark placed between “Press Reset” and “Play Nice” to indicate my reading position in this little trilogy. I also note that each book gets both taller and thicker as we progress from left to right.

📬 Looking into the Design book revealed the thick #ZXSpectrum Guide book.

Now, as much as I like me some text adventuring, I actually much prefer reading from physical books than on screens.

Two paperback books by Shaun McClure arranged next to each other on a table. “How to Design Adventure Games” is placed flat while “A Guide to ZX Spectrum Adventure Games 1982 - 1985” is stood up right so we can see the thickness. Both paperback books are now stood on their side, spine facing up, so we can see the difference in thickness. “How to Design Adventure Games” is much slimmer than the chonk of “A Guide to ZX Spectrum Adventure Games 1982 - 1985”. Rather curiously, the design book is “By Shaun McClure” rather than just the author name. It’s inconsistent with the guide book, and looks odd.

📬 Today’s video game book spotlight goes to a pair of adventure game tomes by Shaun McClure.

I learned of them via a mention of one in an episode of The @retroadventurers.bsky.social podcast

📬 I was considering using this as a guide into a platform I have no familiarity with, but one that is more accessible on #Switch2 via NSO.

I’m really only now noticing the indexing on the spine of the box and slip-case cover. I’ve gotta get ‘em all?

📬 Next out of carton I received from @bitmapbooks.com today is “The Unofficial N64: A Visual Compendium” book.

Since acquiring a #Switch2 I’ve found interest in older Nintendo platforms increase 📈

Comes with a lovely slip-case.

📬 I received a delivery from @bitmapbooks.com today 🤗

First out of the box is “The Games That Weren’t” from @gamesthatwerent.com

This is a very hefty tome (over 600pg!) detailing many unreleased games from across the decades.
