I had several ex-lecturers, Professors, who became colleagues at Brunel, University of London that didn't like PowerPoint when it was originally encouraged to OHPs, for this very reason. They liked the pace they could keep using OHPs. #LTHEChat

I love SmartArt - even as a basic starting point for something bigger or more elaborate. #LTHEchat
What was her reaction? Was this helpful? #LTHEchat
A5 students who get used to writing things and visually impaired students sometimes think the visual should be more professional, but it can be very simple. Maybe some elements should be visual, while others should be text-based #LTHEChat
Our student & this blogger: noblechloe.wordpress.com/first-year-l... undertook a research project on notemaking strategies & discovered students lacked the self-efficacy to draw even intheir own notes. We had to build up their visual confidence slowly over time, Chloe helped w this blog! #LTHEChat
A4 I've often used simple SmartArt visuals in PowerPoint to replace bullet points #LTHEchat
A6 #LTHEchat I'm tempted to see if I can revive the idea of a tangible visible object for final year students to look at. They should be mature enough & have enough trust in staff to tell us honestly whether this is helping
A5 Those learners who have visual impairments if we use too many visuals. Designing learning that has a balance of learning preferences allows students to access the knowledge in different ways. UDL Principles. #LTHEChat
Niiice... I went to the EDulearn conference this year and a colleague used the example of methaphors: hallowen theme so that students apply concepts of research ethics when undertaking a research. VEry creative #LTHEchat
A5 Adding ALT text to ensure anyone visually impaired can understand via screen readers what the visual represents. #LTHEchat
Q6 - What is one small change you could try with students in the next month relating to dual coding and visualising thinking? What would tell you if it was worth continuing?
Reply with A6 #LTHEChat and your response @catherineomahony.bsky.social
Visual literacy, as with media literacy, vitally important in a media soaked world - have a look at: blogs.brighton.ac.uk/visuallearni... - @paulineridley.bsky.social has been lobbying for visual practices in education for some while!! #LTHEchat
I've introduced mind maps to students as a form of notetaking but never had anyone take to it. #LTHEchat
I'm conscious that saying not all students learn effectively through visual media is getting dangerously close to talking about learning styles. However there's a difference between accepting & accommodating preferences/abilities, & categorising students as particular types of learner #LTHEchat 2/2
A4 Yes, usually charts, diagrams and illustrations. They are usually well received. I think revealing diagrams elements, on click is a useful think to do, so the students is overwhelmed by all the information at once and helps the educator to pace the explaination. #LTHEChat
A1 - #LTHECHAT - Every day. A drawing is the ultimate way to ensure understanding.
Like this one.
Great example Sue. I found a sketch I drew when I did a peer observation of one colleague. So I shared ideas and the sketched and then explained her about it #LTHEchat
@paulrk.bsky.social you'd like this #LTHEchat activity!
#LTHEchat A5 We build images, songs, objects - and making of collages, representations or poetry - so a wide variety of modes - with our staff-as-students free to play with our instructions - so we might ask for a collage and get a short video - all good!!
Some students tend to focus more on the fish... than the proper fishbone, but the ideas are very creative. It is fun to mark #LTHEchat
