Ok the dark day has come hasn't it!! Great ep but Frances Robinson has seemingly left the show now and is replaced by Virginia Gregg. VG is great but I've seen her elsewhere so often that I don't want her on this show. She barely got a look in this ep mind.
@bernardjkd.bsky.social#LetGeorgeDoit Radio ep #168 "Partner in Panama" (12-Dec-49).
Riley's back albeit Wally Maher sounds a little ginger.
This ep is a total and absolute banger.
As it is just George alone down in Panama I wonder if it the script is recycled from another PI radio show?
@bernardjkd.bsky.social#LetGeorgeDoit Radio 167 cont'd.
What's great about this ep is that we've no idea what George & Claire are needed for as the client never arrives. So you must create the potential scenario yourself as you listen along.
Only then does a corpse turn up, hidden in plain sight too.
@bernardjkd.bsky.social#LetGeorgeDoit Radio ep #167 "Too Near The Sky" (05-Dec-49).
I loved this ep.
Imagine "Paradise Towers" but just with bored eldsters.
It speaks to the then new idea of living in mind numbing isolation in inaccessible tower blocks.
The lift being broken was genius.
@bernardjkd.bsky.social#LetGeorgeDoit Radio ep #166 "No Riders" (28-Nov-49).
I like how informed this is about the trucking industry.
An unreliable hitchhiker is accused of murdering a trucker whose truck got destroyed in the resulting crash. Were other forces at play?
Still no Lieu't Riley!

Im also dreading the day Virginia Gregg takes over as Brooksie so I'm delighted Frances Robinson has made is this far.
Very fine ep about poisoned chocolates being passed on. Great character work and plot. Will again have great re-listen quality.
@bernardjkd.bsky.social#LetGeorgeDoit Radio ep #165 "Sweet Poison" (21-Nov-49).
Uh oh, I'm now very worried Wally Maher isn't coming back. Fourth ep now with similar Police Lieutenants plated by randos. Maher dies in 2 years time age 43 but mayge he's sick already so that's Riley done with?
@bernardjkd.bsky.social#LetGeorgeDoit Radio ep #164 "Run Until Dead" (14-Nov-49).
This might be this show's most tautly written and plotted ep.
Did the villain really contradict his own alibi? LGDI has a lot of re-listen quality to work out such details.
BTW has Wally Maher now left the show?

@bernardjkd.bsky.social#LetGeorgeDoit Radio ep #163 "The Dark Chain" (07-Nov-49).
A riff on Steinbeck's "Of Mice and Men". Probably could've done with one more clue dropped in earlier to foreshadow the killer's motivation. Overall a strong ep.
Oh and did the dog die?
Yup puppy be well dead.
@bernardjkd.bsky.social#LetGeorgeDoit Radio ep #162 "Every Shot Counts" (31-Oct-49).
An old movie cowboy hires George to investigate a woman in trouble. Turn out she's a professional trick shooter. Then the shootings really start.
@bernardjkd.bsky.social#LetGeorgeDoit Radio ep #161 "The Rose Petal Staircase" (24-Oct-49).
Ahaa an old house with some old biddies. Perfect OTR fare!
George knowing the car crash victim from the past I'll give a bit of a pass. I can give one per ep.
I liked every second of this adventure.
@bernardjkd.bsky.social#LetGeorgeDoit After two lost eps Radio ep #160 "Double Death" (17-Oct-49).
I do need to re-listen to understand the secretary's motivation.
I like that we never see the wife just that hilarious nosey neigbour.
Good scenario and I suspect this plot gets reused elsewhere?
@bernardjkd.bsky.social#LetGeorgeDoit Radio ep #157 "The Man Under the Elm Trees" (26-Sep-49).
I liked this ep set in a third rate college town. Saying that I thought the ep was going to give a profound message about adults still hanging around college but it didn't go that way.
Ok plot here.

@bernardjkd.bsky.social#LetGeorgeDoit Radio ep #156 "The Coward" (19-Sep-49).
What seems like a serial killer investigation turns into something that's quite an eye opener for LGDI.
The backstory of the WWII civilian massacre by the Japanese Army in Singapore could be right out of #Suspense!
@bernardjkd.bsky.social#LetGeorgeDoit Radio ep #155 "Valley Sunset" (12-Sep-49).
Has a lot going on and I need a re-listen to make sure the plot all fits.
George & Claire investigate a family winery run by a conservative European patriarch.
I liked how the poetry elevated the world building.
@bernardjkd.bsky.social#LetGeorgeDoit Radio ep #154 "Everything is Nice" (05-Sep-49).
Wasn't a fan of the step mom's characterisation. That's she bad is too obvious so when the twist never came I was underwhelmed.
Liked the former South Seas folk living in LA but still calling others "Tourist"!

@bernardjkd.bsky.social#LetGeorgeDoit Radio ep #153 "End of Summer" (29-Aug-49).
A very different ep.
It's just a 4 hander but we also hear the inner monologue of one of them.
Loved this experimental ep which is a success.
Thematically it is about the end of summer too.
And it even fooled me!
@bernardjkd.bsky.social#LetGeorgeDoit Radio ep #152 "The Empress of Fish Falls" (22-Aug-49).
The gang have gone fishing but the corpse of a short person is their first bite.
*M word warning!!
A town full of retired circus sideshow folk awaits.
Great stuff.
"Easy Lighthouse" 😀😀.
@bernardjkd.bsky.social#LetGeorgeDoit Radio ep #151 "The Trouble of Joe Martin" (15-Aug-49).
Joe Martin is wanted by South American interests. Now back in USA they want to pay him compensation for a plane crash in the Andes that lead to him going feral.
It's a tense isolated house mystery.

@bernardjkd.bsky.social#LetGeorgeDoit Radio ep #150 "One Chance at the World" (08-Aug-49)
Though the mystery wasn't too deep this was a very fine ep. The troubled client being so crucial made it a bit different.
Lieutenant Riley can really steal an ep even if he is only in a few scenes.
