Distance also affects reinforcement. If Dover suddenly needs dozens or hundreds of additional officers, they have to physically travel there. That takes time. Until they arrive, the officers already in Dover have to manage the situation with what they’ve got. #Dover #KentPolice

The Met has the enormous advantage of operating in one concentrated urban area. Kent Police has officers spread across a huge county. Moving resources to Dover means taking them away from somewhere else. There is no magic pool of spare officers. #KentPolice #Dover

People talk about Kent’s size as if it’s irrelevant. It isn’t. An officer in Maidstone, Canterbury or the Medway isn’t instantly available in Dover. Distance means travel time, and travel time means fewer officers immediately available when something kicks off. #KentPolice #Dover
