We are only halfway through… and WOW! 🔥❤️🔥
If I could describe today in one word, it would be REVOLUTIONARY!

#ISPD26 Debate: local production of PD fluid is the answer to PD growth in low-resource settings
Duel of titans between Ahad Qayyum (PRO) and Vivekanand Jha (CON)
Key Message: fluid cost is the biggest barrier to PD in LMIC because of imports. However, local production is not THE answer to all cases
#PeritonealDialysis management of the patient with cardiovascular disease - presented by Dr. Roberto Pecoits Filho.
Key Message: the PD prescription also shapes cardiometabolic exposure. Attention must also be given to persistent hypokalemia, volume control, and individualized HgA1C. #ISPD26

On 30 September at ISPD 2026 in Cape Town, Edwina Brown spoke on assisted PD and Yasuhiko Ito on managing increasing frailty. Assisted PD lets people stay on home dialysis who otherwise could not.
On 30 September at ISPD 2026 in Cape Town, Bianca Davidson led a case-based session on recurrent exit site infections. Exit-site and tunnel infections are a common route to peritonitis and catheter loss.
On 30 September at ISPD 2026 in Cape Town, Jenny Shen spoke on supporting patients in low resource environments, and Ahad Qayyum on planning a programme and quality care. PD's reach depends on getting this right.
On 30 September at ISPD 2026 in Cape Town, Sampson Antwi led a case-based session on acute kidney injury. Where haemodialysis is scarce, PD is often the only dialysis available for AKI.
On 30 September at ISPD 2026 in Cape Town, Maria Slon spoke on managing fluid overload, with talks on personalised prescribing, PD in the anuric patient and electrolytes. PDI has covered each.
On 30 September at ISPD 2026 in Cape Town, the Practicalities of PD workshop heard Josephine Chow on training a patient and Sally Punzalan on supporting the new patient. Training is the foundation of home dialysis.
