1/5 WE ARE HERE!! 🇿🇦🔥
We are launching the PD-First Policy in South Africa, right here in Cape Town! 💪🩺🌍
This is a significant moment for the future of Peritoneal Dialysis (PD) across our country and the African continent. #ISPD26
The #ISPD26 Karl Nolph Lecture will be presented by Thierry Lobbedez: What registries can do to promote #PeritonealDialysis growth.
For the first time, this prestigious lecture will be given in French (because our Congress also have space for francophone African professionals.
Round table to close the #ISPD26 session: "PD-First" Policy Launch with the participation of the SA Dept of Health (Ms Caroline Mongale), Brett Cullis, Robert Freercks, and other #PeritonealDialysis champions in South Africa.
One of the highlights today at #ISPD26 will be the presentation of the brand-new joint ISPD-ISRNM Nutrition Guidelines in Meeting Room 1.4 at 12h25.

#ISPD26 Debate: local production of PD fluid is the answer to PD growth in low-resource settings
Duel of titans between Ahad Qayyum (PRO) and Vivekanand Jha (CON)
Key Message: fluid cost is the biggest barrier to PD in LMIC because of imports. However, local production is not THE answer to all cases
#PeritonealDialysis management of the patient with cardiovascular disease - presented by Dr. Roberto Pecoits Filho.
Key Message: the PD prescription also shapes cardiometabolic exposure. Attention must also be given to persistent hypokalemia, volume control, and individualized HgA1C. #ISPD26
#ISPD26 Session: Hot topics in PD.
Laura Gillis presented the latest advances in PD in diabetes. Key message: mean glucose levels do not show what’s happening at each moment. One should treat the patients' metabolic phenotype - not simply HbA1C.
The ISPD Early Career Committee invites #ISPD26 delegates to their first QUIZ, today in the Auditorium 1 Alcove room at 18h00. Join them for a session focused on learning, competing, enjoying, and interacting with other participants. Who knows, you may leave with some limited-edition ISPD-ECC money!

In the morning plenary, Prof Simon Davies presented the #ISPD26 Krediet Lecture on "What will PD look like in 2036?". A very insightful talk with lots of food for thoughts, hope for the future but also challenges to face together as ISPD members and within the IHDC.
There are plenty of interesting posters at #ISPD26!
The first plenary of today started with the presentation of the Jonas Bergström Award for the best abstract submitted to #ISPD26 for Dr Kamol Khositrangsikun, Thailand.
