She couldn’t sleep, and the one time her exhaustion took her, she dreamed of bones cracking and flesh sloughing like thick gruel.

LOVE #Favelinefriday!

I enjoy FAR TOO MUCH being ridiculous in first drafts

From the final scene of the first Mudlark’s novella-

“Well, you’re my responsibility,” he pointed out.
“Remind me that next time you get knocked flat on your arse by *redacted*,” she countered, and they both conceded the point as a draw.

Bonus:
Jack has his weaknesses…

“If he didn’t have a secret he could be a hypocrite like everyone else, but instead he strove for the kind of consistency necessary for fiction. Real people could be messy, conflicted. Fabrications had to be neat, logical, linear.”

Edited in BK this week:
After Cerel confronted Rushak, provoking a physical altercation which proved very satisfying for Rush.

BQ: Rush’s anti-talent is behaving in a romantic way. He just can’t pull it off without painful awkwardness!

#favelinefriday #writingcommunity #writingprompts #fantasy

Virgil stood over him and extended his hand.
"Are you finished?"

Grinning, Rushak waved off the hand and retied his boot lace before rising to his feet.

"This is not over," Cerel mouthed behind his
hand. Rushak kept his grin up, but now it felt
mechanical.

I couldn’t pick one line so here’s a small scene.

Our hero speculates about the opponent she hasn't met. #AWingAndAPrayer drops on 10/3!

But you didn’t need demons, or ghouls, or monsters, did you? Not when you had men like Il Duce or the new chancellor of Germany.

#FaveLineFriday (I shared this for WIPSnips, but changed it in editing)

Her boy tumbled to the ground as she landed, his golden blood staining the grass.
Great tears of liquid fire fell from Looccup's eyes. *How could I have let them hurt him.*
Lawcket managed to smile up at her. “I'm okay.”

#FaveLineFriday "She smiled through small talk and asked him questions about his job as if she'd never heard of “equity” before."

The first trait I knew about Mega is that she thinks she's ridiculously charming & irresistible despite being consistently resisted. She thinks this date is going well 👀

From revisions, 2 contrasting reactions Katie (& her ND) has to 2 guys.

1: awkward reaction to hot guy 😬
2: calm with cute, kind guy 😍

Quirky Katie is my favorite Katie.😅

Screenshot of a work-in-progress manuscript.

I stand up from the picnic table we were sitting around and gather up our trash. Brody pushes himself up and those thick, muscled arms flexing definitely gets a reaction out of my body even if my heart and mind are yearning to get back to the campsite.
My overwhelmed brain shifts to worry mode wondering whether a simple goodbye works or if I should say a more personalized parting. Rachel is still annoyed and not picking up on my confusion.
When Brody flashes that, admittedly, really hot smile, I stammer out, “It was a pleasure meeting you again and, uh, it looks like your braces did a fine job!” What the shit fucking shit was that? Maybe I should crawl into the trash can and disappear from this world.
Thankfully, he laughs genuinely and not in that “You are so weird that I do not know how to respond” manner I am used to hearing. “Thanks. Hey, no more cut lips.”
“Good to know!” At least my hands are full of food wrappers, cardboard trays for fries, and precariously balanced empty soda cups so I cannot follow my instinct of flashing a dorky double thumbs up. We stand there smiling at each other for a few beats too long. Screenshot of a work-in-progress manuscript.

[Katie & Kyle are laying opposite directions in the grass with the faces together, cheek to cheek]
I could try tearing the pretzel in half, hoping it does not annoy me if I do not use a knife to more accurately cut it. However, a better, bolder idea comes to mind. I reach up and hold it out in front of his mouth.
He takes a bite. Then he hums softly and I feel it as much as hear it. “It’s still warm. And I agree. This is all very lovely.”
I take a bite and ask, “So have you just been staring at the sky this whole time?” Part of me recoils at talking to him with a bite of pretzel in my mouth, but that part is easy to quiet. I first met him by apologizing with a mouthful of cookie and every day since it has grown easier around Kyle to simply not worry about so many things that normally clutter my mind. I do not stress about following scripts of how I should act and how I should talk.
With Kyle, I can just be.

Happy #FaveLineFriday! It's been a very planning-heavy week for me, blocking out future chapters. But I've been working on editing this morning so I have another duel-snippet to share:

"I refuse to surrender to her." She spat as she spoke, watching it stain Callista's face. Even as stoic as she usually was, the royal protector flinched, wiping it away with the back of her hand. Slowly, menacing, Callista leaned forward and whispered something only for Yvette's ears:

"Then Yvette, surrender yourself to death."

This week I've been editing The Wolf Knight. It's the eighth short story for Raven & Bear. I adore this because it describes a very tender friendship between Sir Garrett and Ata which was set up from the first story.

Bonus A: Both of them whiff in romance.
#FaveLineFriday #Raven+Bear #WriteSky #WIP

An excerpt from The Wolf Knight (Raven & Bear: 8) by Bramble.

Transcript:
Princess Ata Glyndŵr pulled back a small curtain to stare wistfully at Brycheiniog’s countryside. Across from her, a young knight chuckled softly when he heard this girl sigh restlessly. She scowled at him, then frowned in pity. A blindfold covered Sir Garrett’s eyes and hid a scar splashed across his face. A staff of alder tapped Ata’s boot as that old friend admonished her.

“None of that.” A gloved hand tugged at this verdant strip of cloth before he grumbled, “it doesn’t hurt now, just itches.”

Fave scene, really, from “To Save The Sun”
Part VI: New Wave Day

Rhina and Maestus just got bound (married for all intents and purposes) and a binding is also literal; participants’ forearms are bound with a string of pearls, hence the conversation.
🪡

I looked at the pearls, but couldn’t discern colour. “They’re mostly green or pink,” Maes said, guessing what my thoughts were about.

“Mostly?”

-“The Kais gave me a pearl each to add to the string, something to represent them…” he paused to catch a breath, “something to represent them while they’re away, so that they’ll still be with us.” I didn’t expect to hear that. I wasn’t ready to be overcome by emotion again, but here I was, trying my hardest not to break. “Kaitani gave me a purple one; Kaifuro gave me a light blue one; Charia on behalf of Kai-Ilen gave me an orange one; Flyboy gave me an irregular deep pink freshwater pearl, and our Kai gave me an irregular golden pearl.”

“It looks like you completed the rainbow twice today.” I tried to keep my tears at bay with a humorous tone. I failed. How those sponges managed to make me sad on what should have been the happiest day of my life with the beauty and thoughtfulness of their gifts frustrated me, pleasantly… I think.

-“They have this effect on me too,” Maes said.

“You also want to hug them and kick them in the rear?”

-“Maybe not that far.” I know he was trying to lighten the mood, but I didn’t laugh, instead letting the moment exist for as long as it wished to stay with me and pass on its own.

“We should get them something before they go, so they have a little reminder of home.”

"No wonder you've become so attached to her," she teased.

Bonus Q: They make a cookie cake. Jane is booted out so that it can reach the judges without her sneaking a bite.

As the door opened, I was left stunned by Vanna's outfit. Heels and fishnet stockings, a black miniskirt and a red corset, a full face of makeup. Her hair back in a ponytail, a bit hastily done, with strands having fallen out of her hair tie. If I hadn't known any better, I'd say she was dressed like a whore.

To be fair, she pulled it off spectacularly…

After a moment, I came to the realization that we were all just staring at each other without speaking. A wide-eyed look of uncomfortableness was frozen on her face as she slowly closed the door. The moment it latched, Erina let out a snickering chuckle.

"No wonder you've become so attached to her," she teased.

Cam had to hold his breath to keep from laughing.
