I do not agree with this quote as it is not always the case that the future holds something dangerous, I feel that the future is based on what one does during the present. I am doing an internship at the moment which might help me get skills that will help me if the future.

McLuhan is pretty spot on about the pervasive nature of media. Today, we'd probably have no idea what is happening in our country, much less the world. Still not sure if he views this as negative or positive. Maybe he's just acknowledging that this change has happened. #beingmassaged

I don't think TV kids are just a grim bunch because of commercials. Kids before TV were serious too and they lashed out too just for different reasons which were unrelated to TV. I don't believe that this generation is much more serious than any other generation before.

I am a little confused by the meaning of this and am curious what others think. I think its talking about how now on the media people who wouldnt have a voice now do and can speak out and its not just the people who would support the Emperor no matter what he did. #beingmassaged

I had to look up when "The Medium is the Massage" was published. 1967... I'm really surprised by the way he describes the 1960s. The way he describes his present is something I thought would be only applicable to our time. #beingmassaged

On the topic of McLuhan's discussion of attaching ourselves to the past as a defense mechanism I had to bring up the connections to one of my favorite movies No Country For Old Men. Without spoilers the main character goes through challenges that challenge his old view of the world. #beingmassaged

The train was such a big change to society and in a way was media before the media. In the way people could now access other areas in a reasonable amount of time. So trains completely changed how fast things are just like how media has once again changed the speed #beingmassaged #trains

overall I feel equally confused and informed. I understood so much and yet so little, at the very least I can say that I gained insight and perspective that I did not have before. This was a perfect piece for this course. #beingmassaged

#beingmassaged I think that there are lots of things in the reading so far that makes you stop and think about the true meaning or what the author is trying to convey. At times I think it can be hard to follow but then again I think its up to the reader to interpret what is going on.

This image is great. People before media would maybe at most experience 1 event a year but now we experience several events per month which is such a change of pace. This can cause a serious overload for some. #beingmassaged

This quote really resonated with me. Thinking back, the information that always stuck best for me was what I could associate with a joke or something I found odd. My AP Psych teacher used ridiculous analogies to teach concepts, and I never got below a 95 on his exams. #beingmassaged
