Quite a dramatic emergence of Japanese beetles today. Crawling out of holes in the ground, buzzing erratically all over, and then landing in leaf debris, apparently to mate. Collected some for our jays and possums. Never seen so many before. #insects #beetles

A broad-nosed weevil walking along a log fence, in profile. Its somewhat pear-shaped body is a dark reddish-brown but covered with pale, slightly green-iridescent scales. Its elytra are grooved and covered with small fine hairs. It has a stout, whiskered snout with long elbowed antennae coming off it, and round black compound eyes. One clawed foot is raised.
