Use of art in a TTRPG reuse book, a partial exploration.
I try to post different thoughts each day but yesterday on the train to a con I was struck by the thought of giving a player a pictures and saying “play that”.
I’ve since realised where that idea comes from.

Do you NEED any writing on a pregen character sheet? An idea for introductory games.
I run short introductory TTRPG scenarios for people new to the hobby. As such I’m keen to get people playing and not put a lot of rules between them and the action.

What do you need to think about beofre attending a #TTRPG convention - a non-median case-study.
I post every day. I am going to repeat myself. (Hopefully with slightly different viewpoints.)
One of the lenses through which I view the hobby is through attending cons in the UK.

As a designer/writer/publisher what relationship do you have with your customers?
A reply to a Thought about PDFs earlier in the week said “including hyperlinks is just good customer service”.
Customer service? I don’t even know who my “customers” are.
There’s very little…

I’m old & a lot of my thoughts are rooted in the early days of the hobby.
But thinking back, maybe the fact that the first edition of advanced “the world’s most popular role-playing game” consisted of three - co-equal - hardback books:
- one for the players.
- one for the DM

Is there any difference between- should there be any difference between - writing #TTRPG materials for PDF and print?
When I write, I still maintain the fiction that I’m writing for a physical book even though I know I’m going to output the finished product as a PDF.

#TTRPGTHOUGHTS #RULEBOOKCONTENT every Monday? Eg. Should the core rulebook contain Character Generation Rules?
So either tell me what you expect to see in a #TTRPG book when you buy it and what can be left out
Or
Tell me to space this out over a number of threads.

How important is page count in a #TTRPG rulebook?
The rulebook for a game serves several purposes. List the rules. Explain the rules. Teach the rules to the Referee. Teach the rules to the players. Sell the rules and the world. Make people WANT to get the game to the table.

A reply to yesterday’s #TTRPGTHOUGHTS from another tributary. Some good thinking here.

How do you choose the sessions you want to play in at a convention?
Hopefully you haven’t noticed because I’ve kept my post up on here but “real life” has become a tad intrusive for me in recent weeks. That’s all I’m going to say and I’ll stick with British understatement.

Have you run the same TTRPG adventure more than once with different groups? Have you run the same adventure more than once using different systems?
We’re not talking about playing The Keep on Borderlands with classic D&D & with 5thEd.
We’re talking about 2 DIFFERENT systems.

To what extent should players be aware of the stats of opponents?
Knowing how likely an opponent is to hit and be hit, how much damage they can absorb and dish out and any special abilities - allows the player to make informed choices about tackling them.
Or not.

It’s difficult enough remembering different rule-sets for different games. How do you lot cope with remembering the nuances between the different editions of rule-sets?
It’s generally accepted that younger brains in the TTRPG space like their detailed rule-sets.

How would you scratch build a TTRPG in an isolated setting?
I’ve long thought that TTRPGs could be a useful release in isolated settings. Prison. The Big Brother House. Trapped on holiday in a caravan with the rain pissing down outside. A long train journey.
