It's the time of year when Yellow-browed Warblers find their way to lonely coastal sycamores. This was one of two along the north side of Girdle Ness today.

Good day on patch yesterday with 4 Grey Herons high SW over Marcle Ridge, probably not many hours after crossing the North Sea, also 217 Mipits SW and 5 Song T SW, then a Woodlark in the field behind home at Sellack a patch first #patchbirding
Finally, a very revised version of the August #PWC2026 round-up is now published on the blog. Please head over to the blog and take a look, and enjoy the limited September #patchbirding we have left! Not long till October... patchworkchallenge.blogspot.com/2026/09/augu...
Lovely to see this Semipalmated Sandpiper up close at Keyhaven this week, often shadowed by a Little Stint #hantsbirds #patchbirding #ukbirding
The highlight of seawatching at Girdle Ness today was my first Black Tern of the year, but this 'close enough for record shots' Sooty Shearwater was just as enjoyable. Also, 2 Little Gulls, 4 Arctic Skuas, 2 Manx Shearwaters and a Great Skua.

Morning walk around the patch in Riogordo, Málaga. Highlight was a Hobby which obligingly paused on its way south. Also Iberian Grey Shrike, Rock Sparrow and a few Willow Warbler.
A nice mix at Girdle Ness today: two Pale-bellied Brent Geese along the harbour shore, a juvenile Little Gull in the same area, a Lesser Whitethroat peering from the hawthorn, and a juvenile Mediterranean Gull in the south harbour.

Amazingly, yesterday's grey partridge made another appearance at Tynemouth today! At dawn it was running around on the short grass and concrete paths at Sharpness, about 700m away from where it was yesterday, before disappearing into the long grass once again... #nebirding #patchbirding
Morning #patchbirding pretty quiet on the shore over high tide , a few black-tailed godwits, teal ,oystercatchers, redshank ,curlew .
A wheatear kept me company 😍
A few meadow pipits flew over and 2 kestrel were patrolling the shore .
Nice wee treat at weekend there, with only 2nd patch Sabs in 10 years & longest ever views. A lot more Terns too, with only the 2nd Black of this autumn here.
Fuckers ruined earlier post bemoaning lack of action this autumn, the inconsiderate cunts.....
Dawn at Wembury with @devine1974.bsky.social - Wryneck (///middle.revisits.pass), 2 Sanderling, 3 White Wags, Cetti's, 8 Med Gulls, 7 Cirls, Swallow, Dunlin, 9 Turnstone. First Wigeon of the autumn & Firecrest in the Crownhill Down area. #10kmpatch #patchbirding #birding #ukbirding #birds
5 Whooper Swans flew over the lane this morning, at 10:37.
Male Stonechat perched on a hedge, not always seen on the lane.
At least 5 Meadow Pipits hanging around as well.
As well as butterflies still lingering.
Wasnt expecting a flamingo on my Severnside patch visit yesterday. Green ring, so presumed to be the one from Birdland in Bourton, that’s spent plenty time in the upper estuary. #birding #patchbirding
The run of good luck continues… out #patchbirding this evening… a juvenile MARSH HARRIER headed NE over the Hothfield Flood Storage Reservoir (towards Eastwell Lake). Species #101 for 2026. Stonechats, Yellowhammers, Herons, Buzzards & the Barn Owl hunting again at Godinton - 4th sighting this month
A lovely Evening #patchbirding
The Mersey was like a mill pond so flat and calm with a beautiful sky above
Usual waders on shore ..curlew,redshank,oystercatchers,a few little and a gw egret.
2 stonechat, 2 raven, kestrel, buzzard and lovely to see one of the barn owls out early .
"Been a good year for Jackdaw", probably no-one ever said. Patch record counts of Jackdaw (graph) and Rook in the park in recent weeks though. Lots of crows plus Magpie and Jay to collect the set of corvids this week.
Dipper and Grey wagtail along the Beck for more attractive birding.

Eclipse drake wigeon on Tynemouth Boating Lake this morning. A great bird for the boating lake but disappointing, given it's mid-September, that wigeon is the best bird of the day. Will this run of westerlies ever end...? #nebirding #patchbirding
The wind ran through Girdle Ness today and birds were seeking respite. A Whimbrel hunkered with Curlews on the rocks. A Ruff, my first of the year, and a Bar-tailed Godwit found the golf course meadow facsimile appealing.

Another #PatchBirding Owl session this evening on rural #Godinton Park. Barn Owl & Little Owl out hunting in the fields and a calling Tawny Owl once again from the copses. Kingfisher at #SingletonLake, Green Sandpiper near Great Chart, Kestrel, Grey Heron, Treecreeper & Chiffchaffs.
In a similar set-up to 15th, seabirds heading W out of Bristol Channel at Bull Point this a.m. after first-light frontal clearance.
