My film reviews this week include a World War II weather drama, a heist flick, a musical about copyright theft and one of the most talked about horror films of the year.

It's an excellent print, so we really get to see the nuances in the B&W cinematography by C. M. Pennington-Richards. He was a true master of the form, not just in the stark contrasts of black and white, but in the gradations in between, which has to be the hardest part. #Obsession #TheNoirCollective

I've done that even when I attended. My first watch party (hosted by @tommykrasker.bsky.social) so struck me that I watched the movie again and posted an absurdly long thread about it. 😂

Very interesting point. Bill starts out in a tux, takes off the jacket midway through his imprisonment in favor of a medium tone sweater, and by the last scene he's in pajamas with big light leaf pattern interwoven with some dark borders.

Thanks! I'd meant to watch along with everyone, but it slipped my mind, so I thought I'd play catch-up, at least!

What also struck me is the quality of B&W film: Newton so clearly had brown eyes. Somehow the film conveys that (& he did, indeed, when I checked later).

I love that you're watching it now and posting about it. 👍Also, great insight about Newton having a Lugosi quality in this performance. It's that upper-crust suavity over a ruthless core.
