Oh absolutely! Throughout the whole story, there's a clear difference in what the main character feels and what's considered "socially acceptable" to feel by those around him.
He often hides his actual thoughts/feelings.

#LGBTQWriteAThon D7: I suppose they're both wearing masks in a few senses.
For example, Honore is an angel and Al is a demon, both of them trying to get along in a society where the existence of the supernatural is largely a secret.
#LGBTQWriteAThon Ruby, and by extension everyone else with powers has to metaphorically mask up so that other people are unaware they have powers.
In my mage guild series, there is a masquerade ball, so they literally mask up there! And that's before the master of disguises himself, Harlequin!
#LGBTQWriteAThon for Hallid, he's terrified of spreading the blight, and of hurting people.
He's compelled to continue on, despite his fears. He's kind of in a state of terror all the time about his existance.
#LGBTQWriteAThon Don't we all wear masks of different types?
But, overall, I would say that Hallid does wear a mask of pretending he's fine when he's absolutely not. Eventually, he's forced to remove that mask.
He finds that it doesn't stay on like it used to once it's been removed.
Not so much for the main characters, though a lot of people have generally flimsy facades. Muriel, the main antagonist, does it best with the appearance of a friendly, responsible local businessman and not the cutthroat illegal magic kingpin he is, but there's still cracks.

A5. Design my revenge arc for my love interest, Cy. It's loosely modelled after the revenge arc from The Count of Monte Cristo and I'm trying to decide if I should start at a point of contention or work backwards.
A4. "Ari knew Cardoso could be lying, and forboding feeling he got from being caught so craven on a night like this. He was already exhausted from the double shifts three days on. He didn't want to explain why he needed an extra day off on top of everything. Not on his birthday."
