Honor

honor is not in the killing
and perhaps
not even in the saving

it is in the decision
years later
to stay in the hospital
another two weeks

refraining from drink

to get into a PTSD program

Two hearts pass each other
Like ships in the night
Offended feelings
Lose their eloquence
Words are no longer enough
To repair the bruised honour
Of eyes searching for meaning
In extinguished fires
In the ashes left
