"A blue jay—Cyanocitta cristata—stands boldly on a wooden rail, its posture full of confidence and mischief. Its feathers shimmer in layered shades of electric blue, soft gray, and crisp white, each one lying neatly against the next like carefully arranged tiles. The black markings around its face form a sharp, mask‑like pattern that gives the bird an alert, almost cunning expression.
