Good morning #LGBTQWriteAThon 7 "Reunion Tour" is set in 2024 and although my MCs are less risk averse than I am, the band's lead guitarist has elevated risk factors for COVID complications and masks in most indoor settings. Metaphorically, Nicola went by Nykky in her heavy metal days, when she was

There are no real masks in the sequel to Flightless (ope I almost typed the working title, which might end up being the real title, so I am keeping it under wraps!). But of course the characters use plenty of metaphorical ones to hide emotions and heisty shenanigans from society. #LGBTQWriteAThon

@andromedaexists.bsky.socialOct 7, 2026, 1:16 PM

ooooo this is fun, yes to both!! or, well, MC and a very close side character do

Kit wears a metaphorical mask. He was raised to be perfect. no flaws, no questions, no urdening others with his needs. The mask of the Good Catholic™️

Adonai wears a literal mask, a ram's skull!!

Luc wears a visor, as mandated by NHL rules. Does that count?

Beth wears a metaphorical mask, pretending she’s over her childhood trauma, when she so painfully is not.

Veronica wears a metaphorical mask in that she is a devil pretending to be a demon. She has a fae artifact that just makes people think she's one. Ironically she feels most like herself while doing so, it gives her the freedom to do what she wants

Lots of questions about psychology in the prompt games this month, and Cole is a complicated dude to pin down! Sometimes I think he's even hiding things from me.

At the start, twelve year old Rylan has to play the role of dutiful, obedient prince, even though he couldn't care less about one day ruling the kingdom like his father.

As the story progresses, he's able to open up, figure himself out, and determine what it is he really wants.

I guess all 3 of the BYMMS MCs do. Bell and Key wear human shapes to hide the fact that they're gumiho. Tae hides his unhappiness behind a mask of carefree smiles.

Everyone in PTS is pretty open about themselves. Well, Suzuka hides the fact that they're a big nerd, but otherwise.

Finn doesn't so much wear a mask as withdraw from his community entirely, hiding himself away instead of pretending to fit in.

it's why, when he's forced into the open, he can't hide his shame or fear at all 😅

#LGBTQWriteAThon Of all my MCs, Mick is the best one to fit this description. See, he wears metaphorical ones: he always has to appear put together/like he knows what he's doing and what to say, but inside, he's always a mess.

The second best character to fit this would be . . . (1/2)

@saranadosfiction.comOct 7, 2026, 12:19 PM

#LGBTQWriteAThon 6: So arguably all the crew wear metaphorical masks because all of them either are currently undercover/infiltrating or have done so in the past. Archer and Sabbat are probably the ones who're hiding most about themselves in their day-to-day, though, for varying reasons.

@sayaashrah.bsky.socialOct 7, 2026, 12:14 PM

#LGBTQWriteAThon 7. Ashrah is forced to wear a mask of obedience when enslaved by Archdevil Ulorzz. For someone as fierce and independent as she is, this profoundly hurts her, yet she cannot fight this enemy, not now.

Sareena, though... Sareena has her masks.

Wilder, being a bandit, does in fact wear a literal mask at the beginning of the story!
However, both Callum and Wilder wear metaphorical masks as well. Callum’s is of a respectable, responsible, unflappable noble. Wilder’s is of a unbothered joker.
They hide a lot of hurt.

@joannamasters.bsky.socialOct 7, 2026, 11:46 AM

Jevin has never attempted to hide his identity with a literal mask. At one point he would hide his identity by going girlmode, but after last time... never again. Never, ever again. He will only present male from now on.

Both! 😋

Zilla has to wear the protective suit with a heads up display to protect her when going into the compromised sectors of the city.

But she's also shielding her emotions so people don't realize how hopeless their situation is. 🧵

@milosometimes.bsky.socialOct 7, 2026, 11:34 AM

Oh absolutely! Throughout the whole story, there's a clear difference in what the main character feels and what's considered "socially acceptable" to feel by those around him.

He often hides his actual thoughts/feelings.

In #s3, Rebecca constantly hides when she's not doing well. Her mask is the "I'm Fine" mask, which is arguably the most dangerous.

In #TFTNG, Acanthus wears many masks to their detriment. Cypress is pretty true to himself.

In #YP Phoebe masks being aloof a lot.

@cherrypickett.bsky.socialOct 7, 2026, 11:22 AM

#LGBTQWriteAThon D7: I suppose they're both wearing masks in a few senses.

For example, Honore is an angel and Al is a demon, both of them trying to get along in a society where the existence of the supernatural is largely a secret.
