Like most of the Empire, Frosters are matriarchal and have both noble representation and elected officials. The official government doesn't do much though. Most of what gets achieved is pulled off by family organizations that technically qualify as crime syndicates.*

Kashra sits at the edge of the desert, built by people the Empire had little use for.

A lot of its residents are magicless or have been pushed outside the systems that decide who gets security, status, and opportunity. So the community has learned to rely on each other...

Urgaians are a hardy people who believe in the strength of community. Everyone is expected to do their share and pull their weight, and the people are generally quite friendly with one another. Urgaians also tend to be fairly welcoming toward most outsiders.

In the world of Unsaved, several groups call the Shimmery home. One are the Benai-Seriti, who live inside a time loop and experience one day over and over again.

This also means they are quite safe as the future can never arrive, until the loop breaks.

Yes, but.
Like everywhere in Haludar Ishishai, the number of people living outside the city(s) is vanishing bc the yerulo want to maximize their remaining territory, both what's cultivated or otherwise in use by people, and what's wilderness. The district of Mozaa Karphel that

Gonna depend on how we define a desert lol.

WIP 1: The Shinigami Desert is one of the provinces of the 7 empires. It is the so called 8th province (only 7 of them were ever empires though). It consists of flat rock like land and soil, and some long abandoned villages.

There are a few deserts on Camp DuLock.

One is fully barren of life, (The Wasteland Research Area)
One is a horticultural science lab, (The Fredonia Coop Desert Research Area)
And the other is a more established farming region (The Sidby Desert.)

Residents are...

Most people live around the oases. Not too many venture in areas of vast nothing, but there is an entire city under the sand that's tough to get to if you don't know how to get there. They purposely stay hidden and only a few venture out to get supplies

Plainsmen of Scythian origin and Altai maosa who are quite different from those in the Banyans live here.

Plainsmen society is intricate and ritualized. The adaimag majority bow their heads to the nameless goddess on her demon steed. 🧵1/5

Gobi Desert mountains serving as place-claim stand-in for The Wastes. There are people and camels and a yurt at the bast of the mountain. In my story, the camels would be chalicotheres instead.

No one lives in the Deadlands of AElit. It is, in fact, the oldest and largest burial ground on the island.

The deeper you go into the desert, the fewer people you find—much less permanent settlements. Most societies are along the ephemeral rivers at the desert's boundaries and are semi-nomadic, moving between settlements where water is available. ⤵️

The vast majority of settlements in the Forgelands are majority dwarven, and thus underground. Built into hollowed out plateaus or in the walls of canyons, the people living there get through the challenges of desert living by mostly avoiding them.

The ParDafi are the dominant sentients on YelNi. (Anthropomorphic big cats)

They wear loose silk robes to cope with the heat, always in the colors of their Clan. The same goes for their glass jewelry.

#OctoberWorldbuilders The people in the Suzamna Empire embrace magic far more openly than Islana’s people do, because as their land has turned arid in the rain shadow of a new mountain, becoming a patron to the fae might be your only shot at food.
