A giant house spider (Eratigena atrica, one of the UK's largest spiders), loitering nonchalantly near my kitchen door this Autumn 🌱

#Arachtober #InsectThursday #BugSky #MacroMonday #Spiders #Arachnids #EastCoastKin #nature #wildlife

Large brown hairy house spider with dark longitudinal stripes on the front part (carapace) and a patterned, mottled abdomen.

You can come indoors if you like pal just keep your head down and don't let the Mrs see you. I'd watch out for the cat too!

Fair warning, if you are not at all keen on our eight legged friends I would suggest muting the #Arachtober #Spider #Spiders #Arachnids hastags now 🌱😀

Macro of a bee perched head-on looking directly forward. Nestled atop a layered arrangement of small, even-pinnate green leaflets, the insect showcases its dense, pale hairs covering its dark face and a prominent bright yellow patch on its lower clypeus. Its dark, segmented antennae sweep upward and outward to its stage-left and stage-right, while its large compound eyes are in sharp focus. The individual green leaflets feature a distinct, thin dark-red margin. The background elements melt into a smooth, dark bokeh blur.

What time is it? It’s #Cheliceratime !
Today's entry is one of the most famous eurypterid, Megalograptus ohioensis!

All the basic infos are here but if you want to learn more, there’s more in the thread below!⬇️🧵

#arthropod #ordovician #paleoart #eurypterid #sciart #bugsky

1/4

This famous arthropod was one of the biggest eurypterids during the Ordovician period, and its genus was first identified as a graptolite. It’s well-known for the long spines on its second pair of legs and for the semi-lunar shape of its telson.

Size : a bit more than 50cm of body length
Time period : Late Ordovician
Paleoart speculativometer : Almost a carbon copy

The animal drawn looks a bit like a scorpion but without pincers, with instead large spiny arms

Another new-to-me species! Found this awesome Arrowhead Orbweaver (Verrucosa arenata) chowing down on an unfortunate dragonfly (species unknown) this morning. #BugSky #spider 🕷️📸

An orbweaver spider with red head and legs, and a brown-and-black mottled abdomen with a large white backwards-pointing triangle on it chows down on a large golden-brown dragonfly that's bent in half and loosely wrapped in webbing.

GM Bluesky! I should be getting a cold front next week which means more shooting for me! How do we feel about dragonflies? Here is a handheld in flight shot from yesterday.
